Unreal Tournament 2007 Q&A

10

There's a Q&A with Epic's Mark Rein on Computer & Video Games, asking the company VP about Unreal Tournament 2007. The questions are about development progress, the hover board, the Walkers, physics, classic maps that are returning, weapons and mod support.

That Kismet stuff sounds really interesting. Maybe I'll have to buy my first UT in years just to satisfy my curiosity.

Unfortunately someone in some other interview said that UE3 was a huge leap in terms of artwork production requirements, so while developing the game is getting easier, it's getting more difficult to create acceptable art.

    Oh well, we'll see...

I don't really think it's UE3 in particular that's creating the requirement for artwork production, but the entire 'next gen' movement. Just look at Crytech. Do you think they held a Photoshop contest on Fark.com and hired the top 3 to do the artwork for their next game? Heck no. Those guys are paying top dollar for their art. Same with Epic and any other team building a 'next gen' game.

Yeah, it's a problem with all games/platforms. Too much time and talent need to do 'acceptable' stuff.
