      It sounds to me like your build order is suspect. I managed to rush the poor SMs.
      
      At the beginning, queue two stealth squads, then a builder. Have them each capture a req. point.
      
      Have your orig. builder build Tau barracks. When that is done, get some Tau squads. Build a power gen after the barracks.
      
      Once you get the Enlightenment, your stealth units are quite powerful in small groups.
      
      In my experience, the Tau units dominate the SMs squad v. squad.
