EA to Acquire Crytek? (No)

12
Various online sources tracking back to German publication Die Welt, which has been on target with many of its game-related reports recently, state that publisher Electronic Arts is looking to acquire Far Cry and Crysis developer Crytek. EA is currently handling publishing duties on the extremely graphically ambitious Crysis. Given EA's frequent acquisitions of companies whose products it publishes, such a move had already been widely speculated. According to Die Welt, EA publishing executive Gerhard Florin noted that the German studio is an attractive candidate for acquisition.

Unsurprisingly, representatives from EA initially declined to comment on the news. However, now, speaking to GameSpot, the publisher has bypassed the "no comment" routine and gone straight to an outright denial. "Gerhard Florin's comments were misinterpreted," claimed an EA representative. "EA is not in negotiation for the acquisition of Crytek." Given the direct response, it is likely safe to assume that nothing is in the works, at least for now. Of course, depending on how Crysis sales figures pan out, that could always change.

I'm going to be sad the day there are as many developers as there is platforms.

Being bought can obviously be a good thing for the small studio since it means they get proper funding, but the producers seems to meddle too much at times and I don't want EA Trax in Crysis (for example).

I have to agree. I worry that this could cause too much BS in the long run if this is true. EA TRAX can suck my ass btw. USE GOOD MUSIC, please.

For me it's not so much about playing "real" music in the games (fits in some games), my problem is with having to display what's playing with that huge ass popup. It's really annoying. No games with it that I've played have I seen an option to turn it off.

FIFA and SSX use good music, at least. Burnout and NFS Trax = Ass.

SSX's mix was a masterpiece. It literally made the game. Too bad they never hit this high note again.
