Heh, lately I've been thinking about other potential programming jobs. I've even been thinking about shackmessaging GeorgeB with a few game-industry questions. I've got a decent-paying and secure job right now, but it's been pretty dull lately. I don't know yet if that's good enough reason to try getting into games when that still seems to be a big risk to me.

3DR is actually a fun place to work, with great job stability. Yeah DNF has had its share of issues making progress, but it's still a cool IP to work on. I enjoyed my time working there, and would work there again in the future if I was looking to move back to Dallas. George is good about hiring talented people, regardless of experience. If you are badass at what you do, and have a good attitude, you have a good shot at getting hired.

I would hate having my first game industry job being at 3DRealms. I just look at that old DNF trailer and think of the heart that people put into that game just to have it all scrapped again and again. Surprised no one went postal there.

Actually I guess a good question would be - this is likely the rampup to get DNF out the door. Let's say it's less than a year away now - what happens when it is? Does everyone get to stay? Or are these more like short term contractor positions?

Should anyone quit their normal gig over this?
