Isn't this supposed to increase damage made by bows? I'm not seeing a higher damage number on my bows/arrows while wearing it..

Pros and cons of doing this? Is it just another faction like the guilds? i.e. they'll give me quests and I can take their loot?

The level-scaling system is poorly done though. I've been to a dozen different dungeons/caves spread across the gameworld and all of them offer the exact same experience gameplay wise and the same custom tailored loot at the end (usually a couple healing potions, 50gp and some generic magic item with +15 stamina or something). Literally every dungeon is filled with the same monsters that have the exact same hp and damage, and loot perfectly tailored to my level. Where's the uber undefeatable badasses guarding locked vaults of mysterious possibly epic loot? I remember in Morrowind sailing over to an island and clearing out a huge castle dungeon only to come across an insane lvl bajillion liche at the end that would wipe me out in 2 spells, every time. It gave me a reason to get my character better, and something to look forward to coming back to later on when I was higher level. There was always a bunch of locations marked as "come back later". In Oblivion, there's really no point in exploring when everything out there is just the same exact "generic stuff" scaled to you all the time.
One thing I found hilarious is how the guards are always 10 levels higher than you (any one of a thousand of them could be the Grand Arena Champion of the Ages.. kinda takes the meaning out of the title, doesn't it?).
I think in the next Bethesda RPG, they can improve the game by offering a mix of fixed level and scaled gameplay, rather than just relying on the game to scale everything. For example, have everything fixed level the first time through, and once you've cleared an area it scales everything to your level after stuff respawns the next time you come back.
On to the character levelling system itself.. the system is completely ass-backwards and unnatural once you understand the details of it. It's very easy to make a character that's either totally gimped or so overpowered that you literally one shot everything in the game and have no reason to go higher than level 2.
If you select a bunch of non-combat skills as your major skills (esp. the ones that level quickly through normal use, like alchemy, sneak, restoration, speechcraft) you can very easily get to a high level where everything is much more powerful than you since the game is scaled to your level and not your actual gear and combat stats. You can also gimp yourself out of attribute multipliers by training minor skills too high, too early, since the multipliers don't carry over to the next level. Say you had a ton of alchemy ingredients saved up at home and make them all in one pop.. you'd get *5 int for one level and no multiplier for subsequent levels even if you're at 90 alchemy.
If you select a bunch of major skills that you never use (until you actually want to level) and focus on playing a character with minor skills, you can kill anything in the world at level 1.. and I think there's something seriously broken with that.

I got that with around three bars left on the install, I kept pressing retry and it progressed to the end but now seems stuck there. Those damn green bars are playing with my head. Is it my DVD drive?

I am ready to "fight" the Champion. But the last door does not open. There is no anoncer voice either. Is this a bug? Or do I have to do something else besides talking to the champion and his matron? I can not leave the arena either as the wood door does not open when I try do go back as it says I have to kill my opponent first.
OK so after you deck out your house and hire the gal from the shop as your servant, wtf does she actually do? I was hoping I'd be able to dump off loot in the front hall and have her put the stuff away neatly or something, but all she seems to do is say g'day milord and wander about...?
Does she actually do anything? Cuz she was pretty quick to mention she "shared a bed" with the shopkeeper, but she doesn't seem to be down on a bootie-call either... Good help hard to find...
Anyone know?

So far I've closed the first gate, joined the Blades and closed another random gate while adventuring (got a nifty 6% Reflect Damage (constant effect) shield out of that one).

So after fiddling around with my computer trying to get Oblivion to run at an acceptable framerate http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=11882035, I finally got the bright idea "why don't I turn off vsync?".
WHOA.
I always thought this wouldn't have an effect because the framerate would be below the refresh rate of the monitor. Whoops :(
It is now running like butter at 1280x960 with HDR. The distance sliders are at 75%, view and grass distance max, no shadows, and it's pushing around 50fps after everything "has loaded" outdoors. The best part is, it's smooth. It's actually quite enjoyable now :')
The only other tweaks I've used are iPreloadSizeLimit=104857600 (not sure what this does), and sound acceleration in dxdiag has been disabled (this fixed the AI "activation" tweak, in the post above, where if you're attacked outdoors your framerate will go to hell).

In skingrad I have to talk to some orc right? Well guess what, that orc has decided to jump off the walkway to the castle skingrad and is now dead.
I go back a few hours later and the body has disappeared but the quest to buy a house still points me to the spot where the body did lay.
What to do...
I think something similar has happened to an NPC i have to talk to for DB quests. The marker points me to a rock :/

This is fuckin rediculous. I've only Leveled Off My Blade and Armor Skills. I should be able to compete but I can't, even with Difficulty notched down a few.
I don't care what anyone says when I'm leveling off my primary skills I should not become Weaker as I level up. The leveling/scaling system is fucked.

Anyone else see this? What's up with it? Is it important for some later quest or side quest, or is it just something a developer made and then forgot about before finishing it?

Arena stuff:
I did the quest for the grey prince, not realizing what would happen. After I returned and he gave his speech, it just never really clicked that he would take it so hard. So I went over to the mage guild and made a whole bunch of protective magic armour (well, enchanted set of robe+hood+sandals), wasting a couple of soul gems (grand -_-) and about 3k septims. And the bastard goes and gives up. Fucker.
Also, for people who've beaten same, could I have ended it without murdering him? Now I have a murder on my record. :(

Concerning the gray prince:
WTF, that was poorly done. No option for redemption, no reaction by the NPC's to the fact that he just stood there and begged me to kill him, and I get flagged as a murderer for doing it? 0_o I wish there would have been a way to convince him he wasnt evil and bad and stuff, and that he was honorable and that he should prove it to himself by fighting the way he had done all his life. It didnt matter if he wasnt a fancy smancy nobleman, he was a bad ass and EARNED his respect. Kind of said to see him just offer his throat up. I mean, I was gonna kick his ass and steal his lewtz regardless...but still
