Battlefield 2142 Announced

In the sci-fi game, Earth is dealing with a new Ice Age and two military superpowers will fight for control of parts of the planet not covered by ice. Can't we all just get along? The game will feature high-tech assault rifles, mechs, sentry guns, cloaking devices and much more. Here are four screenshots.

1. Arms give larger fireihg arc over tank cannons.
2.Legs give higher mobility over rough terrain than tracks.
3.less recoil because arm joints would recive counter force, not body.
4.To give tanks more armour they have to increas the tanks body and tracks width, thus making it a larger target and a larger more powerful engine, BUT mechs (if they use hydrolic power for movement) only have to increase the size of the hydrolic cylinders (which wouldn't be much) making the leggs a little larger and the feet for the extra weight and then just spacing the legs a little more resulting in not much of a target size change and there fusion reactors could deliver more than enough power. And if you were to put fusion core in tanks the distance between it and the driver would be insufficent and result in invevitable death, yet the distance between the driver of a mech and its fusion core is sufficent.
5.The mech could crouch or go prone to avoid fire.
Thats why mechs are better than tanks.
First of all I veiw the games as sepreate and will probally pick them both up, although I fear ET will not be all that good since people are reportedly telling me iD is involved. If they are it will probally be a let down, due to the fact that they make GREAT engines, and not very good gameplay (yes that is an opinion calm your flamethrowers). If it is all Grey matter, Splash Damage (I can't rmber who) then this is their first MAJOR game release and that also doesn't bode well. Although I hope they learn from teh mistakes of others.
As for BF2142 I don't see this as a way for EA to compete with ET, I see it another teet on the cash cow. Although I have always liked mechs and would have loved to see this game much earlier, I fear teh shadow of BF2 (which si fun once you get past the bugs) still looms. Hopefully they have learned their lesson and will not make teh same mistake. Besides they just announced this how far along can it actually be? Hopefully the developemnt of this game takes a little longer than BF2 and hopefully thatmeans less bugs, more fun.

Personally, this looks interesting. UT2K7 does as well. I really dig the stats side of BF2. I understand that UT2K4 has something similar. I'll need to look into it further.

Since they dropped GeForce 4 support with BF2 (without any real reason) I guess the next logical step would be to drop GeForce 5 support now... you go EA... we love ya...

Do you hate EA, or do you hate EA/DICE, or do you just hate BF period?
Me: I hate EA. I like DICE but I think EA forces them to work harder on expansions than patches. I love BF when I'm not dealing with a BF bug.
I just felt the lines of hate were getting muddy in here.

- Warhammer 40,000 setting
- id's graphics engine
- Each player leads a squad of 5 guys (other squad members are AI controlled)
- Squad's weaponry and role are chosen at the begining of the match.
- When the player dies, he takes control of one of the remaining guys in the squad.
- When all the guys in his squad are dead, he is out of the match. (no respawning within a match. You fight using what you came in with)
- Objective based matches.

Well that's my thoughts - only as much as I've whined about id software in the past, I've never bagged their engines.
I'd bet, the mod community will eat ET up ALIVE - as long as the core game is fairly fun, only this time, unlike BF1942 and BF2, id / whoever will support the D3 engine properly, the game will be smooth and bugs will be distinct, easily found and fixed - not just ignored for months on end.
I really do hope they take a massive chunk out of EA's wallet with ET, and I'm hoping 2142 is just as frustrating as BF2 and BF1942 can be for it's users- perhaps 3'rd time is a charm and people will finally stop supporting them.
