But I am not even contemplating buying this, or the BF2 "expansions", until they get their shit together and fix the BF2 core game. You should be able to get in as a helicopter gunner, hover at around 20-30 ft, and type "HEY GUYS WHATS GOING ON IN THIS GAME" without plummeting to your death due to some stupid fucking bug they won't even ACKNOWLEDGE, let alone profess the technological knowledge to fix.

I think I'm simply going to design the mech game of my dreams myself and present it some day. And it won't have a red-tag team bug that sticks around forever.
If you look at the Vietname-to-BF1942 relationship the same as 2142-to-BF2 you'll probably draw a lot of comparisons. WHo the hell cares if its the same engine, it'll still be fun. Not every game released has to be an upgrade on the existing engine.
I'm willing to be everyone who's bitching about the game, at this point, will end up buying the game.

I'd much rather wait for ET: Quake Wars, as it's basically the same game, but LOOKS infinitesimally better, and I have a feeling it won't be half as buggy as 2142. I'm a big fan of the BF2 engine, but with all these next-gen games coming out, it's not quite up to par, even though it still looks and runs great. They modified the original engine for BF:V just enough to just barely keep it fresh among all the newer games coming out, but with the release of Xbox 360, crazy high-tech and expensive video cards, and people generally becoming more and more spoiled when it comes to graphics, they're gonna have to do a huge overhaul of the engine to hook me.

The only other problem Ive had is that maybe once every few hundred rounds, the game will crash to the desktop. Sure, I'd like it to not do this, but its not like it happens often, and the fun I have in game more than makes up for having to restart the game once or twice a month.
Honestly, I think a lot of people are just bitter at the gameplay itself. Specifically the ass whipping jets and choppers can lay down in the hands of a skilled pilot. To me, however, thats part of the fun, even though I rarely fly, as I dont have a flight stick and I suck with the keyboard.

i missed out on BF1942, i preordered bf:nam, and got burned, bought BF2 the day it came out and loved it despite its flaws, but this one i think ill wait a little bit on unfortunatly :(
I mean, come on! Right now on the regular BF2, everybody teamkills to get that chopper or airplane, now imagine in this uber-new setting where everything looks new and EVERYONE wants to try a piece of that walking killing machine.
Mass teamkilling? damn right
The concept looks cool but I'm sure the execution will be faulty.
/sheds a tear in memory of Desert Combat Final for BF1942.

I'm never gonna touch another BF related game until they start improving their QA process. The amount of bugs I've experienced on BF2 since day 1 has been the worst in my entire history of playing games since the APPLE ][

i'm such a battlefield WHORE.
After all the problems with BF2, the rosey glasses have come off and DICE have established a reputation. And the gameplay is starting to get stale with maps that are designed for chaotic chase-the-flag action. Suddenly ET's objective based gameplay is looking a lot better, and their support has been excellent.

I dont have any issues with BF2 other than the red teammate bug, but its rare enough. Of course, I play on a single server, so I dont deal with the server browser at all. Other than that, BF2 is a ton of fun for me.
I actually dont like 1942. I never did. The only reason I bought it was because of the epic Shackbattles. I never bothered with BF:V.
So if 2142 plays like BF2, that will work for me. Yeah, its basically just a mod, but if the community adopts it, so will I.

We should all make a pact right now to buy ET:Quake Wars when it comes out. It will be the new Shackbattle game!
I know I will be first in line to purchase ET:QW!
