To disable all the startup movies, and have it load the menu right away, go to your My Documents>My Games>Oblivion folder, backup and then open Oblivion.ini with Notepad, and where it says:
SIntroSequence=bethesda softworks HD720p.bik,2k games.bik,game studios.bik,Oblivion Legal.bik
Remove the bik files so it says:
SIntroSequence=
Also, where it says:
SMainMenuMovieIntro=Oblivion iv logo.bik
should be:
SMainMenuMovieIntro=

shame, because the game looks awesome with an fov higher than 75. i wasn't liking the halo tunnel vision vibe i was getting in combat, but looks like i'm stuck with it for now

A trusted source told me that the German translation sucks ass... sucks as bad as Firefly, and that was a real travesty, the worst translation I have ever seen in fact.
Fuck... :-(

I've currently got your standard heavy plate wearer who can do a little destruction on the side.
Also, I'm standing outside a shop waiting for the proprieter to leave so I can follow him and figure out what he's up to for a quest.

I've noticed a big speed boost when setting this to 0 bDoSpecularPass=0
But when its set to 0 i've also crashed constantly in one indoor area until it was set back to 1. I've kept setting it back to 0 for everywhere else tho and its fine

Feel free to be descriptive. Include your 360 impressions.
There's a lot of Shackers who have lower end systems, or are indecisive between their mid-grade system and their 360. By seeing a good range of performance reviews we can better decide which platform to choose, or if an upgrade is going to be necessary to really enjoy the game.

geforce 6800 gt
2 gigs of ram
i put everything on max @ 1024 x 768 no AA - i estimated it dropped to about 20-25 fps (when close to an npc it dropped drastically lower). I refuse to play this sucker at anything below ultra quality :(

Do enemies respawn at all in this game or is there a set amount of them throughout the game world?

I haven't heard much about the dual core support other than the fact that it's supposed to be there. Is there any way you have to specifically enable it, or to verify that it's working? Task manager shows usage on both cores but neither one gets to 100%. In fact if I watch task manager while running the game in a window, it doesn't really seem to get above 50%, so that makes me wonder.

I was told by an EB guy that it's Street Dated for Thursday, so they might have it Wednesday, but can't sell it.

I settle down gleefully for a mammoth Oblivion binge (which I succeeded at, I think something like 16+ hours? Not even remotely tired yet either (or tired of it, I'm just barely scratching the surface, its immense)
Then I get a hard crash, the first I've experienced (really, the first thing resembling a bug I've experienced either for that matter)
Shortly after, my computer cold reboots
Then I get memory errors on boot, and it reboots again
Repeat a few times, etc
Looks like my original 2x512 sticks are dying (I'd been getting reboots on bootup a few times after installing SP2, but didn't think much of it).
On the upshot, I had just ordered two more 512s in preparation for Oblivion, giving me 4x512, but it looks like I'll have to yank out the originals and hopefully get them replaced under warranty
At least, I _hope_ that's what the problem is, and not something really fucking obscure.
Oh, and of course, it crashed just after I got done doing a huge buy/sell/persuade/setup spree at the Mage's Guild, after arriving from a cross-country trek. mutter.
Anyway, that has little enough to do with Oblivion directly, so I'll take a moment out of my pissed off I-hate-computers rant to say that yes, Oblivion does indeed own :P
It's really, really cool. I'd do a big post describing why it's so cool but um, I think everyone already knows that.
Anyway, back to the adventure. I just hit 14 as a Mage, all skills around Journeyman level now, and just upgraded my spell roster significantly - though cripes, the highest level spells have insanely high costs. I think they anticipate you walking around in fully enchanted armor AND being high level. It's certainly better than Morrowind in terms of balance, difficulty, and generaly thoughtfulness of game mechanics.

When you are in a shop, and you see some hot stuff lying around that you simply must have, do this: Take out your sword/axe whatever and smash the items around till you have them back in a far corner, now get the shopkeeper to follow you up the stairs in the opposite corner of his store, or as far away as you can get. Now, dash past him, run to that corner, and grab the loot before he gets there/is able to see you. Ahahaa! You are mine AI bitches!

(actually 2 questions)
Thanks to this post http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=11839092 I see the game supports a gamepad on PC.
My question is, does the Xbox 360 use ANALOG BUTTONS for any functions at all? - or are all the buttons digital?
(since PC does not support analog buttons in games when you hook up a gamepad)

Athlon XP 2500
1GB Ram
Geforce 6800GT 256MB
The game set everything to "High" settings, and I decided to put some of those off. Bloom, HDR, vsync, are all off. I moves grass, actor, tree, distance to about a little over half and left the draw distance to full because I really hate that overbearing fog they use instead. The dungeons run at 30FPS at least, and towns run about the same. The outdoor areas are reallllly bad, hovering around the 15FPS mark. Its really getting me annoyed. I have an Xbox 360, and decided to get the PC version because I enjoy using the keyboard and mouse. If those new drivers being released tomorrow don't give any sort of improvement, or if there's something I'm missing here then I may have to sell my PC version and get the 360 version instead. Its the CE priced at $69.99 Canadian. Anyone interested?

I love that tab brings back whatever window you were just using.
I love how large and easy to see everything is, especially compared to Morrowind.
I love the massive character portrait.

Dont hate me.
1.) The character faces..um, are very weird looking to me.
2.) The interface is horrible. Unintuitive and clearly made for a console.
Every thing else rocks!
Two questions:
Where the hell is my quest log?
Why cant I bind my middle mouse click to "jump"?

I'm about an hour and a half in, playing as assassin (which I assume will be a very popular class choice), and this is just awesome. There is a very heavy Thief influence in this game. If you ever just wanted to get Garrett into a open ended game, this is it.
Thank you Bethesda.
