Cheaters Suck

The Quake3 cheats have begun to surface and it's only a matter of weeks before it begins to get really nasty. From hacked models to this mod, a Quake3 radar that was sent to me. Check out this stuff that's possible on a sv_pure 0 server anywhere on the net: [shot1] [shot2] [shot3]. If you want to use custom mods on servers that you design, just make sure the exact same file is on the server and you're just fine with sv_pure 1. Hopefully id Software will address the issue in the near future, since sv_pure 1 is pretty painful to deal with right now. It's just the lesser of 2 evils.

It sends the info in the PVS, not ALL the info. If it\'s sending all the info, its a bug.
Did you see proxy bots for Tribes? No? You dont think it\'s impossible? Sorry. People making these bots want to make sure they have the biggest audience possible, so the only game that gets picked on is the one that has the most people playing it, which was Quake2 at the time.
It would be rather surprising for a new company to have their game heavily impacted by cheats, unless they used client determinate networking. Blizzard didnt see hacking until Starcraft.. if Tribes games grow in popularity game after game, I\'m sure that, unfortunately, hackers will pay it more attention.
Then of course, there\'s the differences between the Tribes and Quake3 engines. Tribes can afford to only give you entity info on players that are in your sight because you\'re fighting in wide open areas. You\'re not coming around a corner and smacking into somebody. If Quake3 didnt \"prime\" the player by letting the client know about players around the corner, opponents would literally appear on top of you a moment after you rounded the corner (if you were playing on a modem).

Id is pretty damn stupid? You idiot.
That information is sent because it is neccesary, to create an ideal netplay experience. The server tells the clients about the entities when they\'re around a corner so that by the time the player GETS around the corner, the entity will exist. Otherwise its like pop entity appears before your eyes.

Any cheat free game is a game that doesn\'t have enough fans to be a target for the people that make cheats. Look at Warcraft2 or the C&C games.. not much cheating going on eh? Look at Starcraft: Better netcode than War2\'s, but map hacks followed each new (and improved attempt to beat the cheats) version.
The client side cheating in Quake3 is analogous to that in Quakeworld: You never really know what the client is running. Quake3 has far superior programmable client prediction, however, so that allows a certain ease in making aim bots. SV_PURE is meant to protect against this, and whether or not that works out will really decide how cheat proof the game is.
That level is cool.

When I was looking through the cgame stuff I was like.. wow.. you could do some pretty crazy cheats with this.
Sv_pure 1 is pretty much a requisite.

Anyway, I couldn\'t care less if they were cheating or not, unless I was playing for money or a ranking of some kind. Hell, I don\'t really hate campers either; easy frags! :)
Proxy bot users are just a challenge to overcome, and that\'s about it, atleast as far as I am concerned. I fire up Quake 3 to frag, no matter who it is and whether or not they\'re cheating.
But, for the sake of everyone else, please nuke #120. I don\'t have a problem with it, but it seems everyone else hates cheaters (which is understandable). And I\'m sure that not everyone on here is an honest player... definately #120 isn\'t.
