Work @ 3D Realms
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 05, 2006 4:57pm PST3D Realms' job page has been updated as the Duke Nukem Forever developer (insert development joke here) is looking for a programmer. No specialized position, instead the company is looking for a well-rounded programmer who can help with anything from vehicles to AI to multiplayer. 3D Realms is also still looking for a senior game designer. Update: According to GeorgeB every department can use a few extra people so level designers, high poly modellers, etc, are welcome to submit their resume as well.

As a programmer, I wish companies would spend more time actually articulating what it is they need. I see descriptions like this all the time. "We want someone who can do everything" Do companies REALLY want someone whose had experience in all those areas? Because someone like that is most likely a jack of all trades and a master of none. To me, it seems that you are either looking for,
-a specialist in a few core areas.
-an "entry level" position where someone is a fast learner and can be used to fill in gaps in several different areas.
Or am I wrong? Are there really people who are experts in AI, physics, net code/servers, GUIs, vehicles, and player control...?

I don't think 2006 is the year of DNF :[

If you know someone, or have a portfolio, just send it over. You never know.

actually the real question should be which is going to be released first, they've been in production for about the same amount of time.

It's interesting that they're looking for a senior game designer. I doubt they'd need one for DNF, unless someone quite. So does this mean that they're starting work on another project? Curious.
