by Maarten Goldstein, Dec 12, 2005 3:34pm PSTActivision sends along a beta patch for Quake 4, updating Raven's first person shooter to version 1.0.5. For this update id Software and Raven worked together with Intel to improve performance of the game on systems equipped with Hyper-Threading Technology, multiple processors or dual core CPUs.
Players who have a system with one of these configurations will notice performance gains in QUAKE 4 of anywhere from 25% - 87% depending on processor type. If you do not know whether or not you have a multi-processor, dual core, or HT Technology enabled system, please see the ReadMe file for simple instructions on checking your system. Please use the form at www.idsoftware.com/bugs/ to report any issues you find with the 1.0.5 update.Activision also let us know that there are broader Quake 4 updates planned for next year, including several multiplayer map packs.

High quality, 1280 x 1024, no AA
Without SMP: 81.0
With SMP: 88.4
So, something like 9%. This is just with HT, not dual core.
I used the demo linked on the nvnews forum, but it's not very good. I'd like to see one where there's more fighting etc (but I'm pretty lazy, so the likelyhood of me making one is quite slim :)
technology of Intel(r) Dual core processors. Players who have computer
systems with this processor will notice significant performance gains
in Quake 4. With the update, systems with a single core processor which
uses the Hyper-Threading technology will have a performance jump of 25%
compared to non Hyper-threaded processors. Dual core processors with
Hyper-Threading technology will see a performance increase of up to 87%.
In short, systems with this technology will see the game run much faster
than ever before.
