I gotta tell ya, this is the first time I noticed a significant difference in performance after upgrading a driver. 5.12 has increased my machine's performance a LOT on Quake 4, and to a somewhat lesser degree, Battlefield 2. I can now run both games on high settings with most options turned on. I previously had to run Quake 4 on medium settings. If you play Quake 4, upgrade to 5.12!

Anybody know how to get around the message saying something about you must have admin rights to use control center blah blah...? Many of my friends have had this problem with the CCC version and we've had to revert to the older type drivers, but obviously that can't be done now. They DO have admin accounts is the thing... At least a few weeks ago, the ATI website's only thing similar about hacking the registry doesn't fix the problem.

Rather than downloading the CCC, can you use just the low-speed (dial-up) Display Driver Only link, or will it ask for the 2nd and 3rd parts of the package in that section? I have no interest in the CCC.

Sadly, ATI's drivers are just behind in many ways. .NET required, larger memory usage, stupid/ugly skinned interface, no custom resolutions, no equivalent of "digital vibrance", and very limited overscan options for TV-out purposes. Not even looking at 3D performance, Catalyst drivers are just totally inferior to Nvidia's.

I used to love ATI's cards and drivers, but Nvidia's just simply been working harder over the last year or so.

Still no fix for FEAR.EXE having lower performance than if you rename that file to anything else .EXE due to a vestigal "if" statement leftover from the FEAR demo? They said that fix wouldn't make the 5.11 release but that sort of implied it would be in 5.12...

I haven't been able to view release notes since they changed their site around. I did everything it asked in that error page and I still can't see them. How do I get around that garbage? It's really ticking me off. I use Firefox 1.5 by the way.

I've had it with this company. Fuck them. The 9800 was great, and this x800 I've got is ok, but fuck them for this driver bullshit. It seems like they just can't get their shit together.
