I believe the X1800 is the ethusiast gamer card? Most gamers willing to drop $500+ on a vid card already have the latest technology (pci-e for example) so it's more logical to appeal to that market. Yes they're cancelling out their AGP market but gotta think of the $ it takes to make AGP cards vs the money they'll earn... I think they ran a few tests and found out the return was not worth it.

You guys need to think of it this way:
If they make an X1800 an AGP card, you would be pretty fucking pissed that you can't move this X1800 that you put in, to a new upgraded motherboard and processor. THIS CARD IS NOT FOR LEGACY USERS.

If you're looking to eek out some performance from that legacy system of yours, get an X800 AGP series or just wait until your system has completely run out of steam to run current games. Either way, it's a sound business decision NOT to support AGP with the new series.

Haven't really been following pc tech this year, so this RAPID switch to PCI-E has caught me a bit unawares. I was considering a new video upgrade this year, now it's just not worth it at all - to upgrade my videocard now I'll pretty much need to upgrade my entire system.
Bye bye pc gaming, nice knowin ya!( will come crawling back with DNF / proper Deus Ex sequel. )

Damn. I was hoping to get one last generation of goodness out of my Barton 2500+ system.

Thanks alot for dropping the AGP standard so suddenly, assholes!

If they can stop supporting AGP so fast, why do they still print damn games on CD instead of DVD. THAT would be a much more logical innovation, and wouldn't screw over so many people.

I currently have a A64 2.2 @ 2.65 ghz, I would totally get an AGP card like this in a few months as an upgrade to my 6800 GT.

My CPU is fine, I have looked at the benchmarks and even without being overclocked 450 mhz I score within like 5 FPS of an FX chip with the same video card, overclocked I even beat some of the high end chips.

Best Buy is gonna offer a Radeon X700 Pro 256 meg AGP version the day after Thanksgiving for $99 on a rebate. Is this worth getting? Or should I move up to something bigger. Price seems right to replace my aging 9800 Pro.

What a load. I simply don't believe that. They were still making pci videocards last year, what is this transition different?

Card markers: Is someone puts an Nvidia 7800 or an ATI x1800 on agp, I will buy it and I'm not alone.

Well, at least I planned my system-building correctly. Instead of going for a Socket 754 A64 board at the very beginning of 2004, I spent around $700 to build a 2500+ Barton system. This was during senior year of college, so I wouldn't have that much money to throw around. Now I have a JERRRB, so in a few months I'll have enough disposable income to build a nice A64 system with a PCI-E video card (that hopefully isn't price-gouged). Instead of being caught in a trap when AGP starts getting phased out, I can buy a PCI-E system and keep moving.

Nooooooooooooo! I was looking forward to this as my final upgrade for my current machine. I went to the x-bit labs page and voted though. What's the next AGP step down anyways? The X800XT? My 9800 pro is getting old.

Man this pisses me off i mean, i build my pc about a year and a half ago. PCI express wasnt even around, all the sudden its out and its *so amazing* has anyone looked at the benchmarks comparing like the 6800 with pci-e and agp, honestly the FPS increase is like 2 more FPS, like why move over so quicly, last year they had pci video cards. ehh i guess its time to buy a new pc already?

i feel like pc gaming isnt like it use to be, you have to spend 400 bucks a year to play the latest games.
