DOOM Movie News

15

We're getting closer and closer to the DOOM movie premiere and that means there's more coverage around the net. UGO has interviews with The Rock, Karl Urban and others while Coming Soon also chats with The Rock, Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike. Early reviews can be found at IGN FilmForce, CHUD.com and Aint It Cool News. DOOM opens this Friday.

Obviously, there will be two camps of people attending Doom: those who have played an installment of the storied (and at times much-maligned) game franchise, and those who have not. Those who have played Doom are likely to understand what makes the film cool, and those who have not might miss the boat. One thing is certain: Doom the movie makes a huge effort to stick to the things that make the game so popular: the first person perspective, the buckets of gore, and the gnarly weapons. These things are in abundance in the big screen adaptation, and they all delight.

i just don't think the first-person perspective is something that many people are going to find cool. Maybe if I were 12 again, but I'm not sure. I might have called it lame even at that age.
Buckets of gore? that could be cool. I am kind-of excited about the "pinky-scene" with the chainsaw.

Actually the first-person sequence is really cool, if not a bit corny at a few points. I was expecting to hate it or think it was retarded, but I couldn't help but enjoy it (I saw a screening last night btw).

The movie isn't going to win any awards, and it's not about the characters or the plot (both of which are pretty half-assed), it's just a fun movie that doesn't take itself too seriously with a couple over-the-top fights and a lot of nods to the games it's based on.
