Battlefield 2 v1.03 Released

By Steve Gibson, Oct 04, 2005 9:30am PDT The Battlefield 2 v1.03 patch has finally arrived in 170meg glory! The change list is huge and stuff but here are a few of the highlights from the thing which may catch your eye. You can click on 'more details' on the FileShack file page if you want the full list.:

- There is a new tab in the MULTIPLAYER menu that holds a list of the last 20 internet servers you have connected to, plus a list  of servers you have selected as favorites.
- Nickname Prefix You can add a 6-character prefix (such as a clan tag) to your account nickname which will be displayed in-game next to your nametag in the score menu, in game messages, and above your player in the game world.
- Improvements to in-game HUD / Map
* The names of players in your vehicle are displayed in the HUD when someone enters the vehicle or switches positions.
* There is a new element in vehicle HUDs that displays the reload time for countermeasures (smoke and flares).
* Flags for each team are now displayed below their ticket count on the minimap to make it easier to tell what team you are assigned to.
GAMEPLAY CHANGES
- Many criteria for ranks and awards have changed. If you are immediately eligible for a new promotion, unlock, badge, award, or ribbon, it will
be awarded the next time you receive points on a ranked server.
- Only 1 player in a vehicle will get credit for or speed up capturing a flag at a CP. The other passengers must exit the vehicle to increase the speed of capture or receive capture score.
- The commander's supply drop now has an icon on the minimap and a 3D
- The wrench repair rate on helicopters has been decreased.
- You now receive 1 support point for destroying an enemy commander's artillery, UAV or Radar station.
- If you have received a point for healing, repairing, or resupplying a teammate, you will not receive another point from them for the same
action for a set period of time.

  • After playing with the patch, thers ups and downs.

    Pros:
    1. TV Missle gunning has been refined
    2. Minigun glitch minimized.
    3. Turrets have been stabalized.
    4. Ranking change (good for n00bs)
    5. Fixed torque/physics (engines no longer chug on hills and you can 1mph kill ppl)
    6. Map naming
    7. Hud changes are nice.
    8. Favourites = nice.
    9. Gameplay balances to prevent BH whoring are good. Mashturr will return to the foot soldier once more.
    Cons:
    1. Wake is underwhelming, doesnt have the intensity of the 42 version
    2. ***RED-TAG GLITCH*** still remains. This is the sadest con of all. I can't believe they can't get this.
    3. AA Sucks. Sucks just as hard as before. Sure the missles do more damage, but you still cant shoot jack.
    4. Ranking change (hardcores or non-noobs feel like they worked for nothing. People are getting 3 or 4 unlocks for 1/10th teh effort the hardcores put in. Wow elite officer ranks coming. Having a 2 or 3 unlocks over the n00bs was way better.)
    5. Map naming has seemd to screw up selecting spawn points in some instances. You have to sometimes click the bottom left pixels of the white dot in order to spawn. ---> Retarded.
    6. Typing in your prefix everytime is lame. Should remember.
    7. Commanders no longer get TKs for artying. STUPID. In a little less than 2 hours I had witnessed over 50 comrades getting cut up by our own arty cuz the commander was fearless and could not experience any punishment. Now we have a new wave of Jihad commanders who are willing to sacrifice 80% of their resident forces at a flag in order to kill 1 or 2 enemies.
    8. 2. ***RED-TAG GLITCH*** still remains. This is the sadest con of all. I can't believe they can't get this.

Overall, the patch is nice, despite their bone head moves. But it doesnt offer much and what it does improve shoulda been improved 3 months ago in a 10 meg patch as opposed to waiting around for this useless map and soundeffects. This is sad, just sad.
