Imperator Cancelled
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 13, 2005 3:12pm PDTMythic Entertainment's Imperator website has been updated with a press release announcing that development of this MMORPG is being postponed, which pretty much means the game has been cancelled. The Roman themed sci-fi title was originally scheduled for a June 2006 release, but the Dark Age of Camelot developer decided to cease development following an internal review of the game. Staff will be reassigned to Dark Age of Camelot, and the new Warhammer MMORPG.
"This was the most difficult decision that we have ever had to make," said Mark Jacobs, CEO and president of Mythic Entertainment. "However, our tremendous success with 'Dark Age of Camelot' set the standard for Mythic of releasing nothing less than triple-A games, and 'Imperator' was simply not meeting that standard." ... "Our team made a tremendous effort with the game and the praise it drew at E3 and in previews reflected their skill and dedication," Jacobs continued. "But in the final analysis it just wasn't great enough to be a Mythic game at this time."

All that aside, the man reason I quit and I never want to deal with Mythic again was their way of "balancing" classes. Instead of limiting damage a bit with little Nerfs or changing how abilities worked, you would wake up one fine morning and find out your character you spent forever leveling to 50 was now one of, if not the, shittiest class in the entire game. They did it to scouts, they did it to clerics, and assassins have also gotten the shaft.
Then 6 months to a year down the road after giving BS Pr responses saying the class was now "The way it was always meant to be" they would give you a little bit of a boost. I got off that rollercoaster, no thank you, I thought about reactivating my account for the Classic Servers but full me once........

You know what really sucks? Look at those screenshots and think about all the art resources they made. I hope they can use some of that stuff for Warhammer...

Hell even the jumping animation was the same as it is in DAoC.
Is there any info out there on the Warhammer MMORPG? That sounds interesting. Fantasy or 40k?

Imperator is their own brand that no one knows about or has fondness for. Along comes the Warhammer license(score) and now they have a viable IP.
So back to the limited resources, management has to pick two titles to concentrate on:
DAoC: Proven winner
Warhammer License: Good recognition, solid license
Imperator: Unknown
The choice is easy.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo
It cant be true.
IMOH I thought the premise behind Imperator was flakey. The Romans and Myans??. Come on. I was still looking forward to the game though. A new sci-fi MMORPG title.
I dropped SWG for a multitude of reasons.
Guess I'll have to wait for Star Trek. Huxley is a no brainer I will definitely give it a spin even though its a Planetside like game but w/out a doubt has more to offer in terms of content and graphics.
- Put a heavy emphasis on population balance between the 3 realms
- Never released the pve nightmare that is Trials of Atlantis and made the items in it a neccessity in RvR
- Not favored Albion so much from the get go with regard to balance, the creative talent burned themselves out creating the realm and classes with all the camelot lore...
Of course, not putting the word Camelot on the box might have helped the population balance a bit.
Shame

It appears to me that they won't have much work to modify them over to be Warhammer characters...

Why not just admit he wants to put resources on MMORPGs only, or that they didn't have enough money, or that they missed the tech window or whatever it was.

Good decision - Imperator without any PvP Aspect and a strange storyline construction with Romans in Space fighting Mayans just was a bit off the charter. Warhammer has a great universe and Dark Age of Camelot ist still an attractive MMO for players who want a komplex MMO that doesn't end when you have reached max. level with a superb, always competetive PVP System.
Putting Manpower into Warhammer will be greatly needed as many many many fans have been waiting for a company to make a great MMO out of this licence and its well-defined universe. It has already been dumped in between, Mythic Entertainment is a company that will handle this universe with the needed respekt and know-how.
Go Mythic

Few of them got big promotions when they moved to the Imperator team too.
I don't think many of them saw this coming.
Ack.
Warhammer sounds much cooler. As long as it doesn't follow the gameplay rules.
