No AGP for 7800 GTX

If you're looking to upgrade to nVidia's latest and greatest, you better make sure your motherboard is up to snuff. The Inquirer is reporting that nVidia will only release the 7800 GTX in the PCI-Express flavor, meaning no AGP version. ATI, however, still plans to support AGP with its next series of video cards.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. If you're in the market for the card then you

a) already have a PCI-E slot available, or
b) can afford to drop the extra money -- a fraction of the cost of the card -- on a new motherboard to go along with your $600 monstrosity, or
c) don't understand enough about computers to know that you'll probably be bottlenecked somewhere else anyway and won't be allowing the card to reach its full potential (i.e. wasting your money).

Idiots at nVidia? Pfft, give me a break.

Bad move imo. A lot of people upgraded to a new mobo when the 64bit athlons came out and arent really willing just yet to swap mobo just so they can get a gfx card, especially when ATI continues to support agp.

I'm sure the 7800 GT (no X), or the 7800 XT (low performance version, named the name as ATI's top performance, hah), or the 7800 XT PE (really low performance version?) will support AGP.

Erm this news is, what, two weeks old now? But anyway, not a big deal. I am still on an AGP-based board but plan to upgrade soon and was already anticipating going PCI-E. PCI-E boards today, even NForce4 Ultras, are well under USD $100, so they're at least as cheap as this AGP-based board when I bought it a year and a half ago.

Well, the good news is that I can upgrade from my AGP nForce3 board to a PCI-E nForce4 board for about $80 and keep all of my other components the same if I decide I really need a PCI-E 7800.
