We can whinge about xbox live being better than Sony's online or vice versa - we can fight, be opinionated and generally debate it all day long
but when push comes to shove I think there's 2 things we can all agree on.
1, We can't wait to see these things in action and decide for ourselves when we get more info.
and ..
2, the PS3 controller is the worst thing ever designed by mankind. :(

Plus I dont know about you guys but 7 controllers is a little too much. There comes a point where there isn't enough screen real estate for you to enjoy the gaming experience (even if it is HD). I think having all those controllers is a waste. Anything more than 4 is pushing it (and even that annoys me sometime).

* Biggest complaint about the PS2 controller is that the left analog stick doesn't fit where your thumb goes -- and the new controller changes nothing. Look at it and imagine where your thumbs go. Then imagine that boomerang end extending down past your thumb. I smell uncomfortable.
* 2.18TFLOPS would put it at #87 on the world's fastest supercomputers -- and from the looks of it, they got that by just summing up the peak theoretical GFLOPS for each of the cores inside the Cell, and then adding the GPU's independent GFLOPS for good measure. Not only is that just damned wrong, but someone obviously has forgotten how hard it is to parallelize any software, much less a game :P And PS2 was hard enough to program as it was -- dataflow architectures are not easily grokkable for most programmers.
* If it's backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2, where are the memory card slots?
* Memory Stick, SD, and CF all together at once? Talk about muddled branding.
* The GPU looks impressive, but calling it the "Reality Synthesizer" really smacks of the DC announcement and their brags that PS2 could render Toy Story in realtime. Lies, lies, lies. Sony has a nice history of lying in these situations, really.
* What the fuck do you use three Ethernet ports for?
* What TV does 1080p today?

7 x 128b 128 SIMD GPRs
7 x 256KB SRAM for SPE
* 1 of 8 SPEs reserved for
redundancy
total floating point
performance: 218 GFLOPS
Also, one SPE reserved for redundancy? What's that all about?

We're better at graphics for movies, why can't we match them on this stuff?

Absolute bullshit.
I challenge to a taste test, there is no way 99.999% of humans can tell exactly what res their viewing much less being able to discern what HD res they are looking at....

Whats seems to be the major opinion on the shack so far? I don't really see anyone raving about it.
THEORETICALLY the machine is twice as fast (at least in the FLOP department), but how will this translate to games? Are PS3 games going to look twice as good? or run twice as fast? or in the end will it be the difference between a few games having 45FPS or 60FPS.
Also, why is there support for 7 controllers? How is this going to be implemented in games? 7 way split screen mode?
lets all speculate!

Here are two PS3 clips SlamDunk posted earlier:
www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5830 Fight Night, PS3
www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5833 Killzone 2, PS3
Look at the Fight Night clip. It's not awesome just because there are a lot of polygons and the lighting is good-- it's due to the cinematic quality of the clip, making that slow-motion hit very dramatic due to use of camera angles and so on. It's the same with the Killzone 2 clip. I was going 'mommy!' during both clips, but the KZ2 one is jawdroppingest of the two. Naturally the graphics are top notch in there, but what makes the video so impressive is the cinematric quality of the clip.
Render the Kill Zone action in the Halflife 2 engine and it would still be very impressive. Turn it around and give Hallife 2 this engine, and it would still be pretty much the exact same thing. This is also very apparent in Dead or Alive 4 for the Xbox 360. The game still plays like DOA1. While there is an insane amount of polys flying around, you will notice that the player models still bounce back unrealistically upon a hit as in the PS1 original. I don't have a problem with that at all, but it's worth nothing that graphics are improving at several times the pace of in engine physics and actual game content. This is a well known phenomenon, and the fault is our own since we keep buying great looking games over great playing games.
It will be very interesting to see how Killzone 2 plays. If it has the level of interactivity demonstrated in the video I will sell off family members to get ahold of it-- but I suspect it's just as every other dramatic tech demo and not representative of the actual product. In conclusion, the PS3 controller looks like a banana dildo.

Hello innovation! Wait let me guess what's next: Driver 4, Ratchet And Clank 4, Final Fantasy 15 and megaman 22 perhaps?
*SIGH*

some people might argue that a high end gaming PC is better BUT you should consider a game developed for PS3 is focused on a single architecture whereas PC games have to be compatible to many different combinations, which is a major performance and quality issue.

While they mention that it supports the Dual shock controller, I just hope this isn't the default controller. 3 systems with basically the same one is pretty lame (as is the controller it self sucks IMO).
