Late Night Consoling
by Alec Matias, Apr 22, 2005 8:00pm PDTSo, there it is. The Xbox 360. Slick or shit? Personally, I believe it'll look just dandy next to my DVD player and TiVo, but I understand many of you have qualms about it not being black. It definitely looks like Microsoft has taken another page out of Apple's playbook with the design, but hey, nothing wrong with that. Now comes the intriguing parts.. what is that slot on the right? Is it even a slot? If it is for the hard drive, that doesn't align with the rumors of last night and the Ourcolony.net pic. As for the controllers, if they're wireless, where do they get their juice? Are there charge cradles or are they battery operated? Quite a bit revealed, yet so much left to learn. 20 more days, people!
- Can it be true? The first actual image of the Xbox 360 console? According to reliable sources close to different sites around the 'net, this indeed is the final design of the Xbox 360. The most striking feature is lack of controller ports, signifying that the "all wireless" rumor may be true. As for the rest of the features, not quite sure what's what. The small button with the three curved lines next to it? Turn on/off wireless? Is that the hard drive slot all the way on the right? May 12th can't come soon enough!
First Real Image of the Xbox 360?
[xbox] - Xbox gamers were no doubt anxious to take the latest WWE title online, brawling with their buds across the country. Unfortunately, the just-released WrestleMania XXI has shipped with a completely broken Xbox Live component. It just won't connect. THQ blames a manufacturing error at the plant. They hope to resolve it soon with a downloadable patch.
Online Play Broken for WrestleMania XXI
[xbox] - Just two days ago it was reported that government officials in Bangladesh were upset over the use of their country as a setting in the upcoming SOCOM 3, unhappy that they were associated with terrorism. Sony has quickly given in to their demands and will remove any and all references to the country. "Within the storyline of SOCOM 3, there has never been any reference to Bangladesh supporting, or harboring terrorists and/or other criminal activities," said a Sony spokesperson. It's not yet known if a different country will take its place or if it will just remain nameless or fictional.

Things I liked:
- the game looks great, little graphical clean ups and I love the art direction this time around
- increased difficulty, I wish hard mode was available from the get go but at least this time I actually died a few times before the end of the game (something that didn't happen in Prime1 until the omega pirate). Being under pressure in the dark world was cool
- screw attack, I didn't think it would be cool in 3D but I <3 it
- light suit looked rad, but then again so did the phazon suit
- it just felt like they took the game in a slightly different direction, with different powerups/suits/beams (even though a lot was similar to old stuff) which was a breath of fresh air
Things I disliked:
- ammo management could get tedious at times, really it just made me use the power beam more which in turn made things more difficult (a good thing, I guess - but crazy beams are fun)
- I was expecting more out of Dark Samus. I was hoping for some real SA-X moments, where she'd stalk you and you'd just have to fucking run for your life and hide or get mowed down, but her appearances were limited to a few boss fights :(
Anyway, great game. Ending spoilers: maybe in the next game Dark Samus will play a bigger/more interesting part
To the shacker who worked on it (JackMatthews?) Bravo, <3

I have a nice HDTV that unfortunately only does 1080i and 480p. It seems like there is a big buzz for 720p in regards to the x360 output on many forums, but I figured MS may account for my situation(and probably many others) by detecting the HD resolutions available and selecting the highest (while possibly having to drop AA or whatever). I have no clue, but just a thought. I just hope I dont have to invest in another TV to play HD games.
