Its games like this that make you realize how good a game like d3 actually is. Sorry but even with the weapon upgrades, this plays like pure shit.
For a min i wasnt sure if i was on my xbox or what...
disappointing..

What I didn't like:
The game needs some polish. Things aren't smooth at all no matter what I set graphics at. Now I'm wondering if its actually the network performance. I also don't care much for the weapon feedback. You can't tell if your doing significant damage or not to your opponent (or if you're hitting him/her at all for that matter)
What I liked:
When people say "its a Halo rip-off" I usually roll my eyes as its a comment applied to every Sci-Fi shooter now. The thing is, this IS quite a bit like Halo, right down to the vehicle controls. Basic weapons are mediocre but I think thats the point, you work to get those upgrades and once installed, things get much better. I found many people not aware of the upgrade system so they're under the impression that this is as good as it gets. The menu interface shows DE's experience with shooters, Its clean, simple and easy to navigate.
The game really does have much potential but unless these rough edges are addressed this will tank on the PC end.

Bland, boring, and extremely generic.
There is absolutely nothing that sets this game apart.

That being said, I'm failry disapointed with the art direction. From the team that gave us UT2003 with the cool Egyptian team and (even though I don't like the design) fairly unique Mr. Crow and the cool looking Iron Guard, this game feels and looks so utterly generic.
The weapon models are well made, the levels are fairly well designed if a bit blah, but playing CTF I just felt like some big corporation's security goon facing off against another corporation's goon squad. It was totally bereft of 'cool'. I couldn't even tell the two teams apart at first. In a TDM match I had to aim at someone to see his name, then go to the scoreboard to tell if I should be shooting at him or not. Granted there's some of that the first time you play any new game until you get used to what differentiates the teams, but it felt somehow, pronounced here.
And since this MP demo doesn't come with the one thing that sets this game apart from every other game, the MP level editor, it's hard to judge whether this game will even register as a blip on anyones radar.
To be clear, the game isn't bad at all, but it's not exceptional by any means. I just don't see the hook. The SP game might be cool for the story, but this demo hasn't really done anything for me in terms of me wanting to run out and buy the game.
At worst I'm just disapointed that DE hasn't come up with something a bit more exceptional, since I was a fan of their work on UT/UT2003.

there's nothing here that really hasn't been done before.
the weapons seem really weak, it's hard to actually "hit" enemies(the hit detection needs adjustment imo), the netcode was great(which is a testament to the unreal netcode) the musical score is standard fare along with the sound effects, the physics aren't impressive, the maps are nothing special and basically I WASN'T HAVING FUN!
i mean, it just didn't feel fun to me to actually play anymore. everything just feels "blah".
it's yet another boring "futuristic shooter" from digital extremes.
they really, really need to do something different. it's getting old fast.
demo 5/10.

Player Control - horrible, player feels way too slow
Vehicle Control - annoying, could maybe get used to it, but not natural
Weapons - Cool variety of weapon loadouts. Powerups were actually more fun then I anticipated. Grenade launcher gets really useful when you upgrade it to be remote detonatable. Other weapons seem to weak. Sniper rifle didn't kill on direct hit upclose. Most weapons give very little feedback that you hit the guy as opposed to just scorching the earth.
Sound - i'm fine with it. Good for the most part. Nice ambient music, weapons and effects were good.
Gameplay: I only played the assult mode, has potential, got some fun out of it for 2 rounds. May go back for more after studying.
Graphics - mixed bag...rocky terrain looked very Quake2. Some neat effects, what was up with the weird visor your guy wears with the plasma gun? For the most part seem very 'console'. Things are bigger then they should be for a PC game (menus, text, weapons, special effects, etc)
Bottom line: Could have been an 8/10 game if it didn't have such a 'console' feel to it. I've spent way too many hours playing with tight controls of Quake, Counter-Strike etc to put up with such hokey pokey.
Score: 7/10
Verdict: Not buying it.
Picking up the orange things that dead players drop allows you to upgrade, but it seems like some servers start the players off with upgrade points.

Like others said, If you want to play UT2K5, give it a shot. but its been re-hashed over and over and its really nothing special.
Looks like an Unreal MOD with highres textures.
0/10

but its a pre release demo so quess its forgivable
i like the weapons and adding things ot them to upgrade them, seems ot be 3 upgrades for each , ive only managed to colect 1 upgrsade per weapon so far tho, example heat vision with sniper when upgraded 1 level
potential is there, just a bit faster movement would satisfy me(im assuming errors wil get fixed)
Thank you for setting an example for all developers as to how they should handle demos. Pre-release and available freely from any website. You guys kick ass!
