Also on Variety.com is a story about a TV movie being developed based on the book Masters of Doom. For those without a Variety account, Computer Games Magazine lets us know what's mentioned in the article. CSI executive producer Naren Shankar is producing and writing the movie, which should air on Showtime though there's no word on when production might start. Masters of DOOM chronicles the formation of id Software, with specific focus on the lives of John Carmack and John Romero.

Seriously, who could play these gents?

Crispin Glover might do a good job of Carmack. He has a similar face, body type, and I don't think vocally it would be much of a stretch.

This would be so hot if it was a documentary.

If this is a 'normal' movie, then, expect to see John Romero as a drug addicted 'creative' mind always high, John Carmack as a total recluse 'nerd' with no communication skills and a funny voice and all that. Then one of them save the day in the end of the movie... Hollywood style.

itd be cool if some camera crew followed around a high-profile game dev with unlimited access for the development cycle of a game and made a documentary about it after it came out (kinda like how they do with movies from time to time)

As long as Carmack's classic "mmnh, I .. am.. losing.. control.. of.. my.. facilities" (no, I did not pull out the book to verify accuracy) response to getting drunk is in there somewhere, I'll be happy. I do have to ask "why", though... meh. People would be better off reading the book. It's not that long!
