Red Orchestra Q&A

3

HomeLAN Fed is quick to interview John Gibson of the Red Orchestra mod team, winners of the million dollar Make Something Unreal competition. As for what they're going to do now: "We are going to spend the next few weeks exploring our options. The team has put a lot of thought and planning into what we would do if we won, but of course we had to actually win first before we could move forward. We are not going to rush into anything. We want to make the decisions that make the most sense for the Red Orchestra team while staying true to all of our fans".

Ok, so RO won, but every time I look at how many people are actually playing the number is very small. What gives? Is this mod fun or not?

I didn't think so, I played the last few versions and it just wasn't a whole lot of fun compared to Alien Swarm and Air Buccaneers.

      here are my ratings:
      graphic changes: 9
      difficulty for n00bs: 9
difficulty for those who play it for months: 2
Ability to do anything besides "run" around shooting people: 0
      Fun factor: 1

All in all ... since they have a licence to the engin they might put the time and energy into it to make a full game to be sold. That game might be ok, but the sales numbers will be a big hint.

My conspericy idea is that the Make something real people decided to not give it to the mods they saw the most potential in, because this way they can make the most money. ... who knows.

Its not just R.O., its ALL the UT2k3/2k4 mods. Its not the quality either as all of the winning mods are of commercial quality. Its just that not a lot of people are playing them and I have no idea why. While RO may not be everyones cup of tea because of its simulation style gameplay theres plenty of other mods offering something for everyone.

      truly unfortunate.
