Late Night Consoling
by Alec Matias, Dec 03, 2004 8:00pm PSTThe first review of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is out. IGN had the honors and the verdict? 9.3. The bad? It's more of the same. The good? It's more of the same. For me, the original KOTOR was top-notch; one of the best gaming experiences of my life. The first RPG that had me excited to run through it again. So a sequel that doesn't have much in the originality department but fine-tunes aspects of the original, I'm completely satisfied with that. Of course, others balk at paying $50 for an "expansion pack," but I would gladly pay twice that as long as it delivers in the same fashion as the original.
| | PSP Supporting MPEG-4 Playback Sony has updated the official PSP website with new details that explain the PSP can now download and playback MPEG-4 encoded files. Stick the files onto the Memory Stick Duo and off you go. Since the format isn't widely supported, Sony will release a converter program that users can purchase. The exact methodology on how to download and play the movie files will be disclosed at a later date. |
| | Mistwalker Outlays Early Agenda Mistwalker, the studio founded by the father of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, has updated their website with a few scant details about its planned agenda. Sakaguchi posted that he has drafted the scripts for two RPG projects. The company will work with Smile Please, the music studio founded by composer Nobuo Uematsu, best known for his Final Fantasy soundtracks. "We're hoping to bring a new sensation to games," said Sakaguchi. "It's a bit ambitious, but I want to keep challenging myself. I think games have a lot of depth as an entertainment, and there's still a lot of unexplored territory." |
| | No Online Mode for Rise of the Kasai If you were looking to play Sony's first-party title Rise of the Kasai over the 'net, prepare for disappointment. SCEA announced it has lost its online functionality. While no wholly specific answer was given, it appears the decision was made to have it available for a first quarter 2005 release. |

Played Minish Cap briefly... So far, so good.
It is going to be a difficult choice for me whether to pick it up on release, or wait until next year (when I have finished Half-Life 2, Pirates!, etc.)
Also I am not going to read the review(s) of the game for fear of spoilers, but I wonfer if KOTOR 2 starts out like KOTOR 1: very easy, and very plain. Like a beginner's intro to RPGs.
Whoa. Scroll down and look at that white Xboxxen. i want.

It's not illegal, though it isn't licensed by Nintendo. It's only $24.90 + s/h so it's quite inexpensive and it accepts CompactFlash cards which are way cheaper than Memory Sticks. The main feature is movie playback (of course), but it also plays MP3 files and displays E-Books.

It had the best sound on a PS1 game period. I remember staying up, playing at about 4am on a cold night in January. I was in a small empty room and out of nowhere was the sound of glass breaking 3 times. I must have jumped a foot out of my seat.

I want "SAMENESS" from Kotor2. The first was so good, I just want more of the same, really. More story, some new tricks, and a couple new animations would be FINE.
Please let them not re-invent (or dis-invent) the wheel on this.
I'm really really eager to plow Bastila's dirtbox through the game!!!!

Bummer that they'll just be overlooked (like most developers) and all of the credit for their newest game (Full Metal Alchemist) will go to the publisher (SquareEnix).
Hopefully the game sells well and we get the sequel.
