Late Night Consoling
by Alec Matias, Oct 26, 2004 8:00pm PDTSo we all know this week definitely belongs to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but as sites begin to wane in their GTA:SA coverage and put out reviews of the other releases this week, we can start to see that this appears to be a particularly strong week for gaming. IGN heralds Dead or Alive Ultimate as the best fighter on the Xbox. According to GameRankings, GMR Magazine gave a perfect score of 10 out of 10 to Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Even Taiko Drum Master is passing muster with a 4.5/5.0 at GameSpy. A little something for everyone, eh?
| | DOOM 3 Gets Tentatively Dated Xbox gamers that are still waiting for their port of DOOM 3 and hoping for a winter release can stop holding their breath. In a conference call today, Activision president Ron Doornink said to expect the game by the end of March. However, even then, that's not a solid date as id software has the final say if the game is ready to go or not and they can push it back even further. |

I just realized that the Nintendo DS won't be released in Europe until "early 2005", so I'm considering importing the hardware (a bit more hazzle as it's valueable enough to get stuck in customs and such), but I'm a bit worried about the AC adaptor not working with our Swedish outlets. I've contacted NOA about it (damn they replied fast... like 3 hours or so) but they couldn't say anything as it hasn't been "officially announced". But since their games won't be regioncoded it feels like they want their handhelds to work all over the world (for those boring vacations around the globe :p) and I also believe the GBA SP got an AC adaptor that should work in most parts of the world.
What do you think?
Worst case is that I'll have to buy a converter for this purpose, but getting it 2-5 months early and save a bunch of dollars (if I can it through customs good) makes it all worth it. ;)

And that's the beauty of UC2 - it's a frenetically intense frag-fest that has ample tools to cater for a variety of tactical approaches while never letting up on the action.
Ah well, still stoked for the game.
