ATI Catalyst 4.9 Released
by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 09, 2004 1:30pm PDTA non-beta release of the ATI Catalyst 4.9 videocard driver is now available. There is one release with the usual ATI control panel, and another with the new Catalyst Control Center which requires .NET Version 1.1 Framework. Release notes for the 4.9 release can be found here; games effected this time include XIII, Far Cry, Painkiller and Knights of the Old Republic. DOOM 3 & UT2004 performance should be better as well. Man this is the first ATI card i've bought, and i'm continually not impressed with it. Granted the performance is amazing but i keep seeing all these benchmarks of GeForce 6800 GT smoking it. Now they finally release some better drivers and to take full advantage i gotta download some 30 mb bullshit from Microsoft.
Fuck it i'll download the normal ones with the old control pannel... way to go ATI, guess your just not NVIDIA (what i was used to) when it comes to drivers =/

To ATI: Thanks for being smarter than me. There's no reason I could possibly want to ACTUALLY run 1920x1200 on my monitor, so thanks for using a virtual desktop instead since that's obviously what I was asking for.

now Tribes Vengance beta randomly locks up when going to the inventory station with the new drivers!
WTF is wrong with ATI, it never did this with the 4.9 betas at all. And its gotta be the drivers its the only thing that changed and i play Tribes beta a LOT

I am the only user on my pc, and windows would always boot directly to the desktop.
Now when I reboot, it takes me to a select user pre-screen. The stupid thing is, there is only my one name to choose.
Did .net reset a function? Can I set this to bypass the user selection screen and have windows boot direct to the desktop?

If you don't like the new Catalyst Control Center software, don't download the driver package that comes with it! There are two separate packages!

Now I'm getting all my windows and window contents drawing in very slowly. For a about a half second I can actually see the all of my windows drawing starting from the top and filling in.
For example, minimizing my firefox window, I see my desktop whipe in from the top and my browser whipe out underneath.
