I won't know why so many people are bashing ATI for it's Doom 3 performance.

My videocard is a Radeon 9600 Pro (128MB) and I have an average of 35fps (min: 22fps, max:50fps). 800*600, High Quality, No AA.

AA actually decreased fps by 10-15fps. 800*600*Low Quality*4xAA is much slower than 800*600*High Quality*0xAA. Due to the fact that you rather move than stay around I think the last one is the better setting.

None of you posting numbers are using FSAA & AA, which is precisely where improvements will most likely appear. See the various beyond3d threads on ATI tweaks.

Athlon 64 3000+
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 megs

Catalyst 4.7
1024 x 768
Medium Quality- 47.8
High Quality - 42.5

Catalyst 4.8
1024 x 768
Medium Quality - 45.9
High Quality - 45.0

All test were run 3 times each with VSYNC and AA off. Gameplay feels the same. I need a 6800 GT. They can't be found anywhere. Damn you computer geeks and your high saleries :)

This shit fucked up my transparency in windows... anything that uses fading/transparency in the Windows GUI is very choppy now.

Actually, this is from the release notes:

Doom3 improves considerably more (as much as 12% on some product configurations) as a result of the same software efficiency improvements.

A3400+, 1GB PC3200 CL2, ATI X800XT PE (modded X800 Pro) with a _slight_ underclock (doing some stability testing). Both results are from the second run.

4.9 beta's
81.4fps

79.5fps

Looks like a nice release, especially the VPU Recover changes.

Anyone noticing weirdness in D3?

After installing the these, I swear the screen magnifies 2-3x whenever the player takes damage.

Or am I just crazy?

You guys need to remember that sometimes drivers aren't going to give you a better average FPS or better peak FPS... sometimes they're making a dip in FPS (say, a drop to 10 FPS) less drastic (say to 13 FPS instead of 10)...

May aswell stick with the 4.9 betas until they are done then by the looks of this. Sure 1fps isn't noticable but every bit helps and the betas are perfectly stable

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ running @ 2.08GHz (2600+)
Abit KX7 VIA-based board
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB with overdrive enabled (526MHz)

Doom3 800x600 HQ, no AA/AF

timedemo1 results with 4.8's:

1st run- 29.1
2nd run-35.2

DOOM3 Beta 4.9 drivers:
1st run- 30.2
2nd run- 36.2

Meh, feh...at least it's still playable.
