So who remembers when Quake 2 got colored lighting and we were all so wowed by colored lighting until we realized that it just turned everything in the game yellow?

Just trying to bring up some nostaligia. What are some other PC gaming breakthroughs you remember? There were quite a few from Quake 2 if I remember correctly, colored lighting, the... word I can't remember... interpolating I think it was, of model animations... that ended up giving the rail gun that "neat feature" (bug) of pulsating?
