Core Co-Founder Quits
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 15, 2003 8:01am PDTComputer & Video Games is reporting that Core Design co-founder Jeremy Heath-Smith has stepped down from the boards of Core and Eidos. Heath-Smith was the "sacrificial lamb" blamed for the very average Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. Of course the game not being all it could be has nothing to do with the fact that Eidos pushes out games before they are done just to please their shareholders.

I'm not disagreeing with you Maarten, as someone else has, I just think that these publishers (EA, for instance) have silly mindsets. Of course I suppose to the average shareholder, a non gamer, seeing deadlines met is more impressive than the quality of a game he could never understand. Still, silly.

Read this interview with Jeremy H. Smith and you will probably see exactly why he needed to be fired.

that's a long time!
I'm sure their schedule wasn't that long to begin with, and I'm sure Eidos was getting antsy. That said, yeah, they probably should have given them the time to finish it.
But the reviews I've read haven't really indicated that it was a wonderful title that just happened to get rushed out the door.
