Neverwinter Nights Expansion Q&A

Voodoo Extreme has posted a Q&A with Tom Ohle and Darcy Pajak from BioWare, asking them about the Shadows of Undrentide expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights. This expansion should be out fairly soon.

  • Is this going to let you bust out a character to over level 20? If not, I don't see the point.

    I think it's about time for someone to put together a game where you can take a party from level 1 to level 40 or thereabouts, using the Epic Level Handbook rules. Heck, use the Infinity Engine as a shortcut to a working game, then just make content, content, content. I think something like this could feasibly work as an episodic release, as well: make the first game 30 bucks or so, taking you up to level 15, then have a couple expansions where the levels are capped at 30 and 40. You could intertwine a classic Final Fantasy-esque storyline into it, where you proceed through a series of seemingly final bosses, discovering that each one is only part of a larger plot, until you reach the ultimate baddie, who would have to be some kind of demi-god or ubermonster.

    All off-topic, of course. NWN is fun, but the single player is a step back from the magnificent party play of Baldur's Gate. Icewind Dale 2 is more fun.
