Game Design Standards
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 06, 2003 3:04pm PSTEntertainment Depot has an article called Standards in Game Design, asking several game developers (Levelord, George Broussard, John Romero, Rick Johnson and others) about certain aspects of a game that should always be the same. Like Esc bringing up the menu, having an option to invert mouse in FPS games, etc.

An RPG should autosave when the player moves between areas
While that could work with "morrowind" type RPG's, the open ended kind, I don't see it as a viable solution to Final Fantasy RPGs, AKA Console RPGs, where there are fixed save points throughout the world.
