CS: Condition Zero Preview

by Steve Gibson, Dec 30, 2002 1:53pm PST

As I mentioned the other week, I had a little visit to Ritual Entertainment recently to have a look at the latest incarnation of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero as it's now being developed there in downtown Dallas. A new direction has been taken with the project along with the new developer leaving behind the 'challenges' system similar to Tony Hawk that Gearbox went with for a bit more traditional missions system. It goes like this:

Condition Zero is now comprised of a set of various unconnected missions where you play a part of a Counter-Terrorist team. How these missions and environments will be presented to you will vary between scenarios and locations. Some will include the lead in with cinematics such as you are flying in on a helicopter and you get a briefing from your commander on board. Other situations you will just be thrown right in to the middle of a scenario and be given vague details of what is going on and a limited time to escape or complete whatever else your objective may be. An example scenario as described by Erik Johnson ... [snip]
If you're feeling nostalgic, here's the old preview from back when Gearbox was working on the title.

  • i can't see how they could make this game much of a challenge to play if they use the same kinda physics as the online counter-strike....i mean, online is cs totally easy if you're playing against total newbies, it's only a challenge (and kinda frustrating) if you play against somebody who's actually good...i kinda see cz as being either SUPER easy, as in it being super easy to mow down enemies with tons of headshots, or super hard, where the enemies are as good as you and do nothing but headshots on you...of course they might kinda change the physics, which would SUCK and totally fuck up everybody's game...
