On Halo PC
by Maarten Goldstein, Dec 23, 2002 7:23am PSTGameSpot has posted a Halo PC update, based on the Gearbox workshop at the CPL event this past Saturday. They describe the work involved with porting the engine and what Gearbox is working on. The Adrenaline Vault has a brief article of their own.
Pitchford said that the project is about 40 percent done, much of which includes a successful port of the graphics engine. The port required Gearbox to move to supporting DirectX 9 and completely rewrite all the pixel shader effects. Part of what that rewrite means is that the PC game will have some enhanced effects for PCs with the latest graphics cards ...

BTW I still feel that no PC game has touched Halo's visuals in the past year.

Microsoft is just a company that knows how to make money. I don't begrudge them that.
Microsoft insures that we can only have Windows if we want an OS for the PC (Not counting open source). Now they’re getting into gaming. Soon, you will need to buy a X-Box and Microsoft Software / Games if you want to play. Like if you want to run Mac OS X, you have to buy everything.
Sure you don’t care, you don’t care that you tax dollars are fueling the Israel war machine with millions of dollars to do nothing more then oppress and murder Muslims. So why should you care what Corporations do to reduce choice in your life on how to spend your money? The bottom line is you just not caring at all.
I did some history investigation on facts with the Halo PC - Xbox deal. Hopefully it can help some that don't know the whole story or are just to blind to see it.

"...The first problem with being acquired, no matter what company is doing the buying, is that the values and goals of the company doing the acquiring are almost never the same as those of the company being acquired. At its core, Microsoft didn't really care much about what the Hotmail founders wanted for their company. It was Microsoft's money, remember."

it is whack. It makes no sense from an efficiency standpoint. The only rationale I can think for starting the pc port after the xbox is entirely complete is that it would give the xbox version a built in 6-9 month window. Lame.

well, being a big bungie fan, I still do (care about halo), which is why this shit pisses me off even more.

Guess I better jump on the shacks current 'anti' bandwagon and start flaming/bashing Bungie and Halo.
Oh wait a second, I'm not a sheep...
Nope, your right. More like a lemming.

"Microsoft actually rang us yesterday to give us the bottom line on what's going on. Bungie will *definitely* remain an independent group within Microsoft - getting access to the big M's marketing clout and cash pile - whilst Gates' company gets some top game talent. Halo will still arrive as planned on the PC - but will also be released on X-Box."

1. They still get paid to act like they are making it?
2. They still get paid to act like they are coding it?
3. They all are aspiring politicians and they want to ssee how long they can make the lie last?
Correct me if I am wrong, but Halo was supposed to be on the PC and hyped to use PC users for 2 years before they poof went X-box only. In 2 years you only coded 40% of the program before shifting to X-box mode?
Halo 2 has already been announced as being worked on, and you only have 40% of halo one ported to the PC? What doesn't fit here?
And the number one question, who here thinks they will actually PAY MONEY to play halo on the PC in another year or so?

Did they not consider that they might be doing a PC port when they designed the game? Other devs manage simultaneous releases but this is oh so difficult.

PC gamer: <thoughts of getting a Xbox and finding about the rest of the Halo-storyline.>

Has anyone else noticed this?
The pc software/games sections at stores is getting smaller, while they continue to make more room for all the console stuff. My guess is Console games/hardware is outselling PC games at these places. Anyone remember that movie Toys? Where they are coming up with names for plastic puke, and the room keeps getting smaller and smaller. That's what it reminds me of.

Man so let me just run out and buy this right away when it hit's the shelves as it's obvious it's such a priority and they care so much. Oh and because MS needs more money now that they are looking like they might buy Macromedia. I so don't care about Halo anymore.
