A new milestone for CPU speed, Intel has released a 3ghz Pentium 4. AMD has been losing the last few battles. The XP2800+ wont be in stores until Q1 2003. The best thing they got is the XP2700+ thats $359 OEM at newegg. Maybe things will pick up for them with the arrival of the Nforce2? To me the best thing AMD processors have going for them is the price and that you can buy the Nforce2 soon. Best thing Intel processors have going for them is probably the 533 fsb and their overclockability.

Hyperthreading appears to do a lot of good for performance. Looking at the benchmarks, we get rougly the same performance with a 3.06GHz P4 with HT on, as we will with a 3.20GHz P4 with HT off, once those are released.

A processor running, say, 30GHz, seems far away, but thinking back it really wasn't long ago we were all sitting on 300MHz machines. That was like what, four years ago?

Gentlemen, we live in exciting times. For a geek anyways.
