Napster Files For Bankruptcy

CNET is reporting that Napster has filed for bankruptcy protection. This is not surprising considering as bankruptcy filing was part of the deal where the German media giant Bertelsmann will purchase the assets of the company for $8 million. Napster has been offline since July of last year, and was unable to work out a deal with the record companies to get the file sharing service back up.

As much as I enjoyed Napster, I feel that in a way it ruined the mp3 community by making it too easy. In my circle we usually had to work semi-hard in order to find the stuff we really wanted, and we'd usually end up buying the related cds later. Come Napster, any fool could get pretty much anything and the pirateing became more of an issue.

Just my 2 cents.

Ahh, i remember back in grade 10, my old buddy Khang Pham was like "dude, get this thing called napster, it's awesome"

at the time you had to get mp3's via IRC or web browsing :(

Napster was truly an awesome program and it brings back memories. I remember when you can find any song you wanted. The interface was very useful and the chat features were very nice.
