AMD Cuts Prices
by Maarten Goldstein, May 30, 2002 11:18am PDTFollowing a similar move by Intel a few days ago (story), AMD has now also slashed CPU prices. The XP2100 has been cut from $330 to $224, the XP2000 from $280 to $193 and the XP1900 from $220 to $172. Mobile CPU prices were changed as well.

They could have sold me an Athlon XP 1800+ if it was .13 micron however for their rip off 95$ price but they decided to milk the OEM's rather than the retailers with the .13's early to them (They've apparently been making the .13's in SOME form since AUGUST LAST YEAR) but only now will they go full on manufacturing them. (and in fact they still haven't OFFICIALLY released the .13's)
I like AMD's pricing vs intels (normally) but lately intel are coming back quite strong now, and value for money isn't all pointing AMD anymore.
As an overclocker, and a person who HATES cpu's over 45c - this whole bullshit .18 micron AMD stuff just has to go and should have months ago, AMD's latest CPU - the 2100+ basically REQUIRES a 7200 rpm fan to operate at a safe temperature - that's just bullshit.
If you can't release it within safe / decent specs then accept the fact you can't do it - and don't release it (seriously some people with coolers which would be AMPLE for an intel cpu are getting 60+c on their AMD cpu's)
I want to get back to liking these guys but right now they are like the cool girl you want to plow who has just managed to annoy you in all the right ways lately and you just wanna ignore the bitch and plow someone else.

I don't care if the number represents 'what it'd really be if it were a P4' or whatever rationale they use.

The northwood update was as significance as PPro going to the P2, and it came *much* faster. Thanks AMD :)
