mhz mean nothing, intel can go as high as they want. but AMD will always have the better technology thus superior cheaper chips.

no big deal

1.6a's go 2.4 on stock cooling!
Every processor after that pretty much hits a 2.4~2.5ghz mark, and the higher speed chips (2.0/2.2) go to 3ghz or so.

If you supercool, you can get a 1.6a to 3ghz.

*?* That's rather misleading. Is it, "The [Northwoods]...will be 10 percent smaller than their predecessors [the Willamettes]?" Or, "The [2.4GHz P4's]...will be 10 percent smaller than their predecessors [the 2.2GHz P4's]?"

If the latter, that makes no sense... how did they shrink the chip without shrinking the process? It's not like this is a new core! They couldn't have made any architectural changes...

If the former, that's something of a misnomer, to refer to the 2.4GHz P4's as "The new chips," since it's the same Northwood P4 we've had in 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2GHz increments for the past three months.

*shrug* Seems like Newsfactor's just trying to come up with something interesting to say regarding what is truly just a speed-bump.

Is anyone else all for AMD but really getting ticked about the temperature of these CPU's? I'm sick of the noise from the average PC. You have to have a fan on your CPU, PS, vidcard, even some motherboard chipsets, yeesh. I swear the next PC I buy will require that all of these components be tied into a single water cooling system and then on top of that I will get an external firewire cdrw/dvd drive and stick the actual PC in the closet.

Intel's unit shipments accounted for 80 percent of the market in 2001, a 2 percent drop from the year before. The company ended 2001 with 91 percent of PC chip revenue, compared with 92 percent in 2000.

Down from 82% to 80% of market share, and down from 92% to 91% of revenue share. Keep it up guys, you are making a dent!

I love AMD CPU's, they make the Intel CPU's I buy cheaper!
