Another new installment in the "Where Are They Now" feature on The Mushroom talking to Quake 1 mod authors. This time they tracked down Scott Dalton, currently level designer at Unreal 2. His Quake 1 work of fame is the Zerstorer: Testament of the Destroyer mod, which is actually my favorite mod for the game.

  • Zerstorer had it all: rain effects, big new baddies, new levels, statues that came alive, and more and more. People forget that Quake1 had some of the most ambitious mods ever! Threewave CTF, Team Fortress, Rocket Arena, QRally, QChess, Rise of the Pheonix, Snow Boarding Quake (think it was called "Slide"), AirQuake, Breakout Quake (not sure what its name was), PainKeep. In fact, I think that it would be really useful to have a website of the best Quake1 mods of all time. They are still worth playing today... and hey, since Quake was open sourced by Carmack, many could be played for free, as long as they don't depend on Quake1 art.
