GTA3 PC Tidbit
by Maarten Goldstein, Mar 11, 2002 5:59am PSTAccording to Voodoo Extreme, the April issue of PC Gamer has some news on the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 3. Looks like us PC gamers won't just get a straight port.
Rockstar quietly let the world slip a few weeks ago that GTA III was coming to the PC. A key feature will be support for 16-person multiplay, and the PC version will also sport better textures at a much nicer resolution. The mouse/keyboard setup will be instantly familiar to third-person-action fans, too. We're definitely looking forward to this one.

I might have to buy this title again!
Demo is required just to make sure the controls doesn't suck and that a small 19" 4/3 monitor doesn't ruin the fun.

And yes, I expect the base controls on the PC version to suck. One example is that I expect the degree of movement to be digital rather than analog. This'll be due to conforming to the keyboard as the standard for movement input rather than an analog controller joystick.

Then again when was the last game that was as good as it sounded? :(
Btw, I wish Hitman2 would be released already. Supposedly March 22nd is the day it hits stores. I can't wait.

Staunch X Box supporter that I am, I think this game might have been SONY'd right off of the X box, I mean, we haven't heard ANYTHING from DMA or Rockstar saying it will end up on X Box, or when. All I've seen is some vague quotes on X Box fansites.
I'm thinking about getting a PS2, not just for this game, put partly for it, and now I wonder if I should even get this game on PS2, or wait for the PC port. I'd probably get the X box port over all (my Home PC is pretty crappy), but I'm just not sure :-(

is this the patch that adds the fun?

I do wonder about how steering the cars will work, though. It worked pretty well with the Dualshock analog stick, and I don't see steering working particularly well with a mouse (and the keyboard doesn't offer the range that an analog stick does either, so far as degrees of steering).
Anywho, we'll see

Who needs a PS2? ;)
If you play GTA on a console, FPS mode sucks cuz there is no mouse or keyboard... but if you play GTA on PC, driving sucks because you are stuck with only the mouse and keyboard.
I suppose a gamepad is an option for the PC (I've have MS Sidewinder, very nice btw), but it's a pain in the ass to switch back and forth between KB/Mouse and Joypad.
Oh well, still looking forward to GTA on the PC though, since I don't own a PS2.
