The Navy Seals team has announced their Quake 3 mod Navy Seals: Covert Operations is finally being released after who knows how many years. They hope to release the mod between 11am and 12PM CST today (ok looks like it will be a little while longer, but who's counting hours at this point). Here's some of the features

From the famous Ak47 to the S&W 629 revolver. - Three all new player models featuring dozens of new animations. An IRC release party is going on in #nsq3 on irc.enterthegame.com. Update: Well, as most of you know, it's out now. Due to the delay in release we were unable to provide a mirror. You can find other locations for the 189mb file here.
- An realistic damage system with different damage locations and wound effects. - Changed Player physics to increase the realism. - PORC, an improved particle system for the many cool effects in NS-CO.

You can't kill because you can't distinguish teams most of the time, the name popup doesn't work at range. Unless both opponents plan on PAUSING for a second after running into eachother, weapons fire is spray and pray. You can't play it more to "get used to it" because the time spent DEAD to time spent PLAYING ratio is fucked beyond belief. And time spent dead is EQUALLY split between being caused by enemies AND teammates. Flashbangs? Shit, they might as well just make them mini handheld nukes. Same difference, because if you're tagged by one you have no hope of living whatsoever.
Two years. Is it that people are incapable of actually THINKING about ways to make a game fun instead of trying to felch off of CS' popularity? Or is it simply that people are utterly incapable of alpha testing and instead think of such periods as "Whee, fun, i get to play the sneak preview huk huk huk" time?

I too spent most of my time dead.
Models are nice, there are some VERY nice things in there but still some bugs need to be worked out.
1. Maps are insanely large and it is VERY boring to plod from A to B. At least let us sprint a bit longer, fags. And you have to stop dead to regain your breath (walking does NOT fix it).. gay.
2. Some objectives are unclear. I couldn't figure out where to put the bomb, once I got it, or HOW to put it down. I ended up tossing it, then we couldn't find where I tossed it.. it got worse from there..
3. Have I mentioned rounds are fucking boring.
Basically this mod could not hold my interest because, quite frankly, I spent most of my time dead. I suck. If I had spent most of my time alive i'm not too sure it would have been fun because the maps are huge, dark and I get lost frequently (I don't know them too well yet, you see). So I suppose I can go pick a different gun, eh? Wrong - you need stat points and experience for that, which is hard to get when you're dead 95% of the time.
In other words this didn't grab me immediately. I didn't really want to devote the time and patience to this. It did play well (no major lag or cockups) with the occasional green XYZ in place of a model. But... it was sloww.. and I don't have patience for slowww anymore.

* Increased speed of movement. Yes I put points into stamina, its still ass-slow.
* More forgiving crosshair. No xhair-run I can understand. But please leave it while we walk. Faster walking speed while you're at it.
* MUCH more easily distinguishable models.
* More clear objectives.. markers on floor at critical map areas ala CS would be good.. signs with arrows (again, like CS) would be helpful in learning maps
* More intuitive radio system.. erm, one bind for EACH message? GAY

Positives:
Innovative "character builder" - Uses experience points instead of cash that can build up different stats, equipment, etc. versus simply buying gear as in other games like this.
Eye Candy - Looked pretty good. Not OMFG!!!~11!!! good, but good. I'd say better than Urban Terror. The models and skins were very nice.
Negatives:
You walk like a retarded elderly person with a wooden leg and a bad back - It may just be me but I felt you moved *way* too slow. Also the crosshair expands then disappears after walking for about 5 feet.
Die too easy - I took 3 bullets and died. This happened every time.
Overall I see a lot of promise but this isn't the game that's going to win people over to Q3 mods. I also think that, as a lot of games & mods seem to be doing lately, they tried to make it realistic at the expense of gameplay. If I wanted complete and total realism I'd join the fucking Marines. I'm playing a game. I want to have fun.

Plus you move waaaay to fucking slow and your crosshair completely disappears after 2 secs of moving. Also bandaging takes forever. Waiting after your dead takes forever. Actually EVERYTHING takes for fucking ever except dying.
