First Quake Rally, now this? The Navy Seals team has announced their Quake 3 mod Navy Seals: Covert Operations is finally being released after who knows how many years. They hope to release the mod between 11am and 12PM CST today (ok looks like it will be a little while longer, but who's counting hours at this point). Here's some of the features

- 21 new and unique real-life weapons. From the famous Ak47 to the S&W 629 revolver. - Three all new player models featuring dozens of new animations.
- An realistic damage system with different damage locations and wound effects. - Changed Player physics to increase the realism. - PORC, an improved particle system for the many cool effects in NS-CO.
- Fifteen entirely different maps with varying objectives, sizes and themes. - A highly customizable environment effect system for rain or snow.
An IRC release party is going on in #nsq3 on irc.enterthegame.com. Update: Well, as most of you know, it's out now. Due to the delay in release we were unable to provide a mirror. You can find other locations for the 189mb file here.

  • NS-CO needs: since I can't be fucked signing up for the forums

    * Increased speed of movement. Yes I put points into stamina, its still ass-slow.
    * More forgiving crosshair. No xhair-run I can understand. But please leave it while we walk. Faster walking speed while you're at it.
    * MUCH more easily distinguishable models.
    * More clear objectives.. markers on floor at critical map areas ala CS would be good.. signs with arrows (again, like CS) would be helpful in learning maps
    * More intuitive radio system.. erm, one bind for EACH message? GAY

  • the graphics are quite a bit better than UT. the models look nicer, the muzzle flashes look almost real, and the textures are good. the weapons are very powerful and kill quickly. i have only played 3 games so far, and most of the time i have been waiting as a spectator, dead. the skill point system could be pretty neat. some weapons like sniper rifles have a stat point requirement, so you have to build a certain skill to get some weapons. the interface is lagged though and when i try to add skill points it doesnt work. theres also a bug where you spawn above the map and fall to your death when the round starts. needs work but i like the style :)
