CS: Condition Zero @ Shack

by Steve Gibson, Feb 27, 2002 11:48pm PST

I decided to go ahead and post this bright and early for the heck of it. A little while ago I took a trip to Gearbox Software to find out just what in the world Condition Zero was. What I discovered was not some goofy find the key plot thrown in to the Counter-Strike game, but a clever approach that should pleasantly surprise Counter-Strike fans. CZ is slated for release 2nd quarter of this year.

How do you do that? Package a modem and a dial-up account in every box? Include a video or DVD? Send Pat Hook door to door to AWP every customer on a LAN? Well I think Gearbox came up with one of the smartest and eloquent solutions possible. They took Counter-Strike and combined it with... wait for it.... Tony Hawk Skater 3!?. [snip]
I'm certain there are more questions that I could have answered, and there is a revelation in there about the future of online Counter-Strike as well which will probably frighten and confuse some folks. Hopefully I can do a nice follow-up addressing whatever comes up in a week or so and include that with the extra images and footage I'm expecting from Valve.

  • i must say the news i read in this article about CS:CZ have not pleased me not a bit. the coop multiplayer only seems to be a great step back i think. i have read randy pitchford interview some time ago where he said there will be the multiplayer available where ALL the players can be live guys or the mixture of bots/guys. and randy also talked about the upgrade for CS classic to be compatible with CS:CZ so "the only difference between CS:CZ and classic CS owners will be in the singleplayer mission-based game." what i read in this article seems to be something VERY DIFFERENT from what randy said some time before and i think it suckz. :o( i am frustrated...
