Condition Zero Questions
by Steve Gibson, Feb 07, 2002 1:37pm PSTSo I've returned home from a quick road trip up to Dallas to check out Counter-Strike: Condition Zero up at Gearbox, which means now comes the part that involves writing up what I saw and hopefully explaining to people what type of game it is and who it will appeal to most and why. In addition to that though I'd like to ask you guys to post any questions that you'd like to see answered in the article concerning Condition Zero. Please, only questions about the game, anything else is off the topic and will be moderated as such. Questions?

Will Czero stay true to the police/special forces theme, or will it lean more towards full-scale war? Are we going to see rifle grenades (the Galil and FA MAS, two new weapons in Czero, are known for using them), machineguns and lasing targets for airstrikes as if this were a military conflict, or will Czero do what CS did and steer clear of giving players too much kaboom?
Will the russians have modern russian special forces weapons available to them, such as the AS VAL, Groza or the ASM-DT amphibious rifle, or will CZero stick with AK47s, AK74s, and other more pedestrian weapons?

How, exactly, is CZ going to integrate with CS? Will current players of CS be able to play new maps and with new weapons/items without purchasing CZ?
Is it fun?

Obvious question like how is the single and multi-player.
What makes it better than CS?

Is there any trace of this in the new single player game? If not, and it still manages to be addictive...what makes it so?
- Coop?
- COOP???
Is the walking speed extra slow like in 1.4 beta?
Yeah, I know it'd be tough to notice the walking speed having just looked at the game for a little while, but it's worth a shot. :p
Does distance effect the amount of damage shots do?
Will it follow the "winners out" gameplay model in multiplayer where the winners continually have the advantage due to a money system, as found in CS?
(Please note that this was as unbiased I can sound in asking questions about a psuedo-sequel to what I think is a poor game model all the way around. If the game takes the few entertaining elements from CS and goes a completely different direction, I think I might enjoy it.... and with Co-op, of course. =)

How effective are the new weapons? Do any of them unbalance the game?
Are they making any tweaks to the existing weapons that won't be present in vanilla CS?
Are the single-player maps good for multiplayer, or are there seperate maps for that?
Have they done anything to the fucking worthless flashlight?
Will we be able to torture hostages?
Counter-Terrorists:
Will two CTÂ’s be able to defuse bomb faster?
(I know itÂ’s kind of unrealistic but as a reward in the game I think itÂ’s be great. ItÂ’s a team based game after all)
Both:
Will we be able to surrender?
(Reason? See if 1 CT’s left and 10 Ts with 3 minutes ‘till the end of the round. The CT has a AWP, he knows he can’t save the hostages, he knows he can’t win, he knows he won’t get any money next round but he wants to save his weapon so he just surrenders (instead of camping for 3 minutes) and the new round starts right away.
Does flashlight has blinding effect?
Is the realistic-physics-model implemented where players can bump into each other and trip over things?
(I mean how cool would that be!!!!)

- How do the new skins/models look with the new maps AND with the old maps? Do they stand out oddly, or do they fit in well?
- Is there an in-game MP3 player yet, a la RA3?
- Is the ALT-TAB sound switching bug fixed? (if ya alt-tabbed out to windows, or another program was brought to the front that minimized half life, your sound would stop working and it'd require a total exit out of the game and then back in; supposedly you can click exit, click resume, (or something like that) and then get it back working, but's it never worked for me)
C'est tout! Ah, one more... is it fun? I mean, real fun... like the kind of fun CS was when you first experienced it? Or is it more of, well, gee, this is fun... for the first half hour fun?
Gracias.
High-res textures? Model and environment shadows?
like for example yelling out commands to the terrorists before you a) take control of them or b) bust a cap in their head
Is there coop? (of course)
Are they using any content from CS at all, in terms of artwork, and if it's all new will we still recognize elements from CS (say map settings, texture style, etc)
Will an SDK be released?
What will retail cost be?
Has gameplay been tweeked any? Such as hit damage for weapons like MP5 and such.
