The GTA3 Answer?
by Steve Gibson, Jan 18, 2002 5:11am PSTWithout a doubt one of the biggest draws for people to get a PS2 over an XBox was one game, GTA3. Well then, did you expect that to last forever? Here is MS's answer, Wreckless. They've got a new trailer up and screenshots there that looks pretty good (Thanks EA) showing off lots of in game footage and some pretty impressive graphics. If it will have the depth of missions etc is another story, but the game is slated for release in just a few weeks so we'll see pretty soon.
Wreckless is the only title for Xbox that delivers an insanely reckless, high excitement mission-based driving experience taking the genre to new heights with complete interaction with the environment, two distinct storylines, unique hair-raising missions, real-time car damage and amazingly realistic replays. Take on the Yakuza mafia as you pull off tough driving missions and insane high-speed pursuits throught a chaotic, full destructible city. [screenshots] and for comparison, [GTA3 screenshots]

You have got to be kidding me!
I was just in the process of deciding if I should get a PS2 or an X-Box when GTA3 landed in a store near me. Checked it out and was deeply amased. How the hell they fit that game in the small memory of the PS2 is mindboggling.
Obviously I bought the PS2, and I've had more fun with GTA3 than I've ever had with any console!

These screens look like a low-quality, run-of-the-mill, crap racing games that noone buys.
I'm thinking about picking up WRC, Devil May Cry, MGS2 and a couple others soon. What games does the X-Box have that is fun?? Halo? Played it and got tired of it at the store! Most overhyped crap ever.
X-Box is history. MS is loosing money over it, and it'll be lucky to be #3. (and we all know #3 in a console war is gone real fast)

1) Better graphics. The XBOX is just plain more powerful than the PS2. Push the resolution and everything else.
2) Make the character mouths move. A tiny thing that can improve the game.
3) More cars, more cars on the screen, crashed cars that don't just disappear but have to be towed.
4) Building you can run into. I'd love to run inside a few building every now and then.
This is just a few, but there are plenty more. I'm eager to play this game.

If so:
*Do you get an awesome assortment of handheld weapons?
If so:
*Is there any blood when you shoot/incinerate/explode people?
If so:
*Is there a LOT of blood?
If you can get to the end of that test with all YESes, I would consider it at least a partially worthy contender to GTA3.

GTA3 looks better than those Wreckless screenshots..
I own both machines, so I'll try to rent Wreckless and check it out.
GTA3 only pisses me off a little. The city needs to be BIGGER, and when you jack a cop car, I want a goddamn SIREN.. and the police dispatch radio.
Who ever did the QA for this game was sleeping when they didn't bitch about the lack of radio/siren/dispatch in the emergency vehicles.
