Gateway Drops AMD
by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 25, 2001 6:56am PDTZDNet is reporting that Gateway is dropping AMD as a chip supplier and will go back to Intel as its sole chip supplier. AMD had been supplying chips for a low-cost consumer line, but Gateway says Intel can now match that low cost.

It just got worse for AMD - they're closing two fab plants and laying off 2,300 people (15% of their workforce) by mid next year.
