It just got worse for AMD - they're closing two fab plants and laying off 2,300 people (15% of their workforce) by mid next year.

Does Gateway realize they just lost a huge chunk of the high-end gamer market? Or do they figure gamers didn't buy Gateways anyway? I would have considered them as an alternative to Dell since Dell doesn't offer AMD, but not now.

There is more to it than price. You cant put AMD just anywhere. They would overheat in some of these conditions. I get it at work all the time. They realized that Intel is better at OEM deals and support than AMD also. That's what sells in this market kids, not price. The average consumer doesn'y know any better.

Not sure why everyone is so upset. How many of you actually own or considered buying a gateway machine? Seriously this doesn't effect anyone but gateway and amd. Plus building your own rig is so much more cheap/rewarding than buying that stuff from gateway.
