Red Faction SDK Released

Volition's FPS Red Faction should be hitting stores in the US just about now, and to celebrate, Volition has released a toolkit for the game. This toolkit will allow you to create your own content for the game. There is readme available here. You can get the 2.88mb toolkit from 3D Downloads or the Descent Network.

This is a collection of in-house utilities and exporters for players to use when creating custom content for Red Faction levels and mods. These tools enable easy addition of custom character models, animations, special effects, level editor objects, and more.

OMG That was fast! I post on the Red Faction forums and time after time they said they might not even release a SDK! FUCK YES! This owns so hard, I get my copy in the mail. I just played 7 STRAIGHT HOURS OF CTF (IN THE DEMO!) I am addicted, it's worse than crack! Crack is bad! I prefer other drugs.

Damn, that font tool is complicated. I thought they'd just have ten TGA files with 0 through 9, but bigfont.vf has 0 through 100. Do I even have a chance with that?

I wish they had put in something to export the bitmap in the vf into a TGA file so I could see what it is for each letter. Weird.

I finally tried this last night after installing it from the newest PCGamer CD (and yes i do have a cable modem just didnt want to download it).

Opinion: Very Good Game. GeoMod is pretty kool. (i ecspecially liked the drilling vehicle.

For the first time, I dicked around the menus in the Red Faction single-player demo, and I finally heard the good part of the menu music.

If this SDK can extract the files from the .vpp files in the demo, then I'm making a new folder on my MP3 drive. That music is damn good.

Oh, and just wait until I convert my 7-sector HUD number add-on from Q3 to this. It'll be phat!

I just hope the number sprites are 32x48 or 32x32 stretched to 32x48; otherwise I'll have to start it from scratch.

Tried the new demo today...

It's a half-assed version of Half-Life made with a pre-alpha Deus Ex engine....the breaking glass is pretty nice tho.
