The Dimitri Project

This is the first mention I've seen of this, yet another game that Peter Molyneux has his hands in. A project currently codenamed Dimitri. This game is not Black&White2 or Creature Isle but something different. One would only assume there is a cow or monkey that you can pet in the game but details are still sketchy.

Peter Molyneux talked about role-playing games as one of his favorite types of games, and he had some very concrete ideas about what he might like to see in an RPG. The central theme of his idea is a living world that reacts to players' actions and changes over time--an idea that extends what Molyneux has already done in Black & White in terms of creature development and the effect of a player's alignment in the world.

  • Hello. Where has Mr. Guy-With-Cool-French-Last-Name been for the past few years? We've already had RPGs that react to the players and shape their alignment and all that:
    Fallout 1+2.
    Deus Ex
    and the much much much lesser known Exile RPGs.
    Peter has some great ideas, obviously, and has made some great games, but this is one of those things that just isn't an original idea. Granted it's never been done in as huge a scope as he wants it to be... But then again, what if he just gives up and turns these types of things into just scripted events? In Final Fantasy games things like that happen, but obviously it's not as interesting to know that every single time you play, the house will burn down, and you'll come back later and it will be rebuilt.

  • Is this the game that makes his vision fun?

    I don't know who is going to buy this. The press lied to us / was deceived over Black and White, the game is a stinking pile of poo. I don't want to play it at all. Who the heck wants to train their computer to do stuff?

    Who liked this game here at the shack? If we get 2 people saying they did I'll be surprised. Oh, and you had to keep liking it after the first week of playing it too. Molyneux owes us all for B&W. I got 3 other people to buy copies, I feel so bad over that. Anyway, I'm not going to buy anymore of his life simulators. I might play them, but until he puts out another game that I don't feel ripped off over, I'm not going to pay for anymore. I hate to say stuff like that, but if I buy stuff that I don't like, I can return it. Except, not with computer games. And nowadays we have to wait for the patch to make the game what we thought we were buying anyway. Except we had to wait forever for this. Whatever.







  • Peter keeps trying to make games with almost "living" worlds, hoping that his customers will see it and think, in the immortal words of Sammy Sosa, "It so reeeeeaal"

    The problem is that, despite however many years he spends coding, normal people will still be scared to buy it because it sounds so experimental, while "gamers" will either laugh at it because it doesn't feature heads popping off left and right, or they will treat it like any other game they play and PLAY 2 KRUSH, finding out how it ticks and seeing how everyone reacts to everything and then shelving the game, possibly bashing it online.

    I don't care how interactive his worlds are, or how many different emotions are programmed in or whatever, gamers will still whip the shit out of that bitch and feel completed with it in two weeks.
