GameBoy Advance GONE GOLD!

by Steve Gibson, Jun 11, 2001 10:07am PDT

Today is that golden day many gamers have been waiting for. The Nintendo GameBoy Advance system is official today and should be on retail shelves across most of North America. The system is launching with 15 games available now and should have about 60 titles before the end of the year. Here's the launch title list for ya:

Super Mario Advance - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - F-Zero: Maximum Velocity - Pinobee: Wings of Adventure - ChuChu Rocket - GT Advance - Namco Museum - Earthworm Jim - Konami Krazy Racers - Ready 2 Rumble Boxing - Iridion 3D - Fire Pro Wrestling - Super Dodge Ball Advance - Rayman Advance - Pitfall - Army Men Advance
Here's a good FAQ including more games, previews, and information. It will be official in Europe on the 22nd of this month.

  • Got My Game Boy Advance Today = G-Day

    Toys R Us:

Grabbed a GBA for 107.99 (Price after tax)
They had about 10 units just sitting there on the shelf, every color, tons of games.
They included a free around-the-waist carrying case (shitty, but free nonetheless) and even
a TRus Coupon Book... bullshit offers other than the $5.00 THPS2 for the GBA -- Used it when I
    got the system as well.

    Best Buy:

Not Selling The System Until Wednesday--

Selling the games for 39.99 each (plenty of every launch title aside from F-Zero)
They'll price match WalMart/Kmart/ToysRus/anything other than a costco or related membership
warehouse... so if you've got an advertisement of a game for less than $39.99, BRING IT.

    ------------ The Games --------------

I'm impressed. I HATE-HATE-HATED my GameBoy Color (and every other variation of a GB system) yet I've humped my new system twice already.

Tony Hawk 2 - Isometric view was a little awkward for a few minutes, but I've been playing it nonstop for about 2 hours... well, only stopping to play ChuChu Rocket. Controls are the biggest drawback IMHO - I find it a little too hard to pull off simple kick-flips and grabs compared to the DC/PS versions ... but it's a fucking handheld -- still a great game

Chu Chu Rocket - If you played the DC version and liked it at all, you owe it to yourself to buy this game... linked it up with a friend already and it was a blast.

Overall, system is sweet... got a worm light for it too (nasty glare, but better than nothing) and i'm really happy. Just thought I'd share... please excuse the horrible sentance structure and spelling.

    Thanks
