Counter-Strike v1.2 & Cheats

The CAL sponsored by the CPL (Who works in cooperation with Valve) has posted word on Counter-Strike v1.2 that is due for release this month. We can probably expect changes as usual. The CAL page also has word on a new anti-cheat measure that is included in v1.2

Upon release of Counter-Strike 1.2 this month, the Cyberathlete Amateur League will require all match servers to be in the new "pure" mode during official matches. I wanted give everyone a nice advance notice so you can get used to playing with all the default player skins, weapon models and crosshairs.

Pure servers settings. That should cut down on at least some of the hacks. A pure server setting generally speaking will compare all the files on your drive to the server and if you're running any different models or skins it gives ya the boot. Keep in mind this doesnt have any impact on the wall-hack video drivers. (Unless of course the phrase 'pure server' also encompasses something other than how Q3 works) Hopefully Valve has something in mind for the wall-hack too. Speaking of cheats, CAL recently booted a team from their top league for cheating and banned a couple of the guilty player from ever playing in future events. Cheaters = suck.

when we talk about realism and CS, haha. They have dumbed down most of the weapons in the interest of fair play. The maps simply aren't big enough to warrant such long range weapons. The short range weapons have been made super sloppy when they should be the most accurate. The TMP for instance is supremely accurate under 10 yards. however, in-game, it is sloppy as hell. WTF? the guns should become less accurate than real life when you move, jump, and strafe. This would bring a new level of gameplay to light. If players had to start thinking before the blindly ran out in the open and started bunny-hopping like mad with an awp, the game might be more fun. I can't count how many times I have been beaten by a cheater. I have no proof, only a suspicion. which leads me to believe, that maybe not everyone is cheating like we all claim, maybe that guy had the skills to headshot me across the map with a full open AK47. Maybe that guy can bunny hop and kill me with his mp5 full open from 35 yards away. Meanwhile I am crouched with an m4 bursting on his torso. This is what makes me wonder. How is it possible for that to happen. I think it's my DSL for one. Their bullets get to me faster than mine get to them! Did anyone notice that about DSL? How the download is faster than the upload? Most cable connections are like that too. Asymetrical. Are we all cheating, or is there another explaination? netcode that doesn't understand the asymetrical nature of most LPBs. I know that someone with a 30 ping is usually going to beat me with my 100 ping if we are the same skill level.

I will admit right now, q3UT has the potential to be much better than CS, but because of q3 engine's fucked up net code, I end up missing some luser that I just emptied a clip into. I don't think an 80 ping is too bad to play on.

Why remove the crosshairs? Damnit I really like to have custom crosshairs for the zoom-in weapons. Besides, I think it's too damn hard to zoom with the AUG and actually SEE anything at all.. Like on Dust and Dust2! But on other maps that are darker, it's just fine. I am fine with this decision as long as Gooseman improves the zoom-in for the AUG and for that other weap that the terrorists have..

heh dont get your hopes up about this doing anything at all, considering q3's "pure server" routines were cracked by many people minutes within each point release... it's really not all that difficult, the CS "pure" mode will be cracked even quicker you can rest assured unfortunately... sad but true unfortunately..

that is BS. I don't cheat and never have. I have played CS since beta 1 and never needed to cheat. I have replaced most of the stock sounds cause they all suck and have my own sound pack with better sounds. Yes Some of them have to be ripped from other games because I can't just go out and record an AK firing. Most of the models have been replaced cause they suck ass. Low Poly, low res skins suck ass. I'm not the only player that feels this way. If I were, there would be no CS official skin shack. I publicly say that the sounds and models suck ass. I have emailed cliffe offering to give him my sound pack, but he is so gosh darn busy, he never replies.
Considering that the CS site hasn't been updated in forever, they must be working hard on v1.2. I don't care how much flaming I get for blasting the sounds and models. That's not what makes CS fun. It's the gameplay. I just like to look at better models, and hear much better sounds.

A team captain is meant to set a good example for his team. Damage_Inc clearly uses wallhacks and allows teammates to strafe jump to choke points, providing an illegal advantage over the opposing team.

Is Strafe-jumping really considered cheating???

Aren't all the players in the same room? Can't they get people to stand behind them and actually WATCH them as they play? I mean, NBA, NFL, and MLB officials don't watch the games from TV screens in the comfort of their homes or at a bar. I'm sorry, I've never witnessed a computer game tournament, but it just seems logical that if you have all the players there, you'd have people watching them.

I personally think that cheating adds to the game, if it doesn't happen in excess. I've actually had some pretty funny experiences with other people cheating (I don't do it myself).

However, in official competitions... by all means, they should have some sort of ultra-pure server. CRC checks against all of your files, and also I think you should have to be running from a list of "verified" drivers.

I'm glad to see SOMEONE enforcing the rules and banning cheaters from competition. So far, Valve, as well as Cliffe and Gooseman, haven't done much to curb cheating (they did put out server patches to combat the speedhack, but all the other stuff was up to Valve).

The new "in" thing is to say that cheating isn't as bad(read not as many cheaters) as everyone says it is. Well I am here to tell you it is. Our clan server gets fools cheating all the time. If you just think to yourself that the only ones usually noticed are ones that are obvious, imagine how many use it and are good at hiding it.

If I wanted to use the wall hack, I know I am smart enough that you would NEVER catch me.
