P4 Price Cuts

8

Word over at ZDNet is that the Pentium4 chips are gonna get a big fat price cut this weekend. Ok not huge fat but about 11% or so which is pretty respectable.

Steve Gibson is the cofounder of Shacknews.com. Originally known as sCary's Quakeholio back in 1996, Steve is now President of Gearbox Publishing after selling Shacknews to GameFly in 2009.

good thing I didn't buy one of these things yet. I would have kicked myself for it... I figure when the NV20 comes out, maybe these will be cheap enough to buy =P

Aren't these slower than P3s with some stuff though?

yeah, I saw that. It's a pity really. They should be almost 50% faster out of the box without any special code optimizations, but they aren't... :(

Thing is they can have really high clock speeds i think. 2 ghz one is going to be pretty fast

yeah, I know, but if you figure 1Ghz PIII vs 1.5Ghz P4... it should have a 50% increase from the clock speed alone right? Well, it looks like it didn't.

Of course, once they start optimizing code for the P4, then it will start having better benchmarks.

Aren't they planning to both change the form factor and do a die shrink? Seems to me that it'd be a good idea to hold off until they've done both of those.

hmmm, maybe I'll just wait until the next processor comes out =)
