BlizzCon 2017 starts off with the opening ceremony and, after a heartwarming montage and a video showing off some of the incredible recent happenings for Blizzard an eSports, speaker and Blizzard president Mike Morhaime started discussing their popular RTS StarCraft 2. He then made the surprise announcement that StarCraft 2 will be going free-to-play on November 14.

This will be a fantastic time for new players, as the game recently underwent a major shift that addresses underused units. Those who don't own StarCraft 2 will receive the base game, Wings of Liberty, for free. If you already own Wings of Liberty, you'll receive Heart of the Swarm. Free-to-play players will have full access to the ranked ladder and free access to co-op commanders up to level five. More details on StarCraft 2 free-to-play are up on the Blizzard blog.

Morhaime also introduced a new co-op commander, which is made up of two characters: Mira Han and Matt Horner. A new co-op mission called Cart and Parcel will arrive on November 14 as well.

If you already own all of the current StarCraft 2 content, Blizzard will be sending an exclusive Ghost skin in addition to three new portraits. If you grabbed a virtual ticket for BlizzCon 2017, there's a StarCraft 2 reward awaiting.

wow, very generous to get the campaign too.

It makes sense. I havent played SC2 in years but maybe I'll dab back in a little. I bet this gets player counts up a bit.

Same. I always wanted to play it just for the campaign but not enough to pay for it

Its probably asking too much but it'd be great if they give Legacy of the Void to those who already own Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm.
