Super Meat Boy Forever finally gets a release date at The Game Awards

For months, Team Meat's Tommy Refenes has insisted to everyone (including Shacknews, repeatedly) that there is no release date for Super Meat Boy Forever. There is no release date for Super Meat Boy Forever! There is no release date for Super Meat Boy Forever! But things tend to change at The Game Awards. And now, there is a release date for Super Meat Boy Forever. On top of that, it's closer than anybody thinks.

Yes, this is the long-awaited next chapter in the Meat Boy saga. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have settled down to raise a family, but that pesky Dr. Fetus is back again and he's abducted their child, Nugget. Meat Boy springs into action again, as does Bandage Girl and a host of other characters. Team Meat planned to add ample challenge to every playthrough, noting that each time the game is completed, players will have the option to replay the game with all-new, procedurally-generated levels, each with new secrets.

"Super Meat Boy was a massive success that changed my life forever and people had been clamoring for a sequel for ages," Team Meat co-founder and programmer Tommy Refenes said via press release. "But I didn’t just want to deliver more of the same and call it a day. Meat Boy deserved more than that. I wanted to rebuild Meat Boy from the ground up, in a way that would offer an entirely new experience that still hits all the same kinetic, addictive notes as its predecessor. I know Super Meat Boy Forever took forever to make but we’re confident that it was worth the wait."

In case you didn't understand the first time you read it, Super Meat Boy Forever has a release date. It's coming on December 23 to PC via the Epic Games Store. It'll sell for $19.99 USD and those who want to pre-order early can pick up a 10 percent discount.
